So guys, as a 24 year old lad who’s been diagnosed T1 for 2 months now, I’m noticing that my hair is starting to thin out and the texture is starting to change. I think because of my insulin?! (Please correct if I’m wrong) Does anybody else have or had this issue and is there anyway to solve this?

Hi. I was diagnosed T1 in March last year due to pancreatitis. My hair went really thin and was falling out. I was in hospital for 4 months on numerous antibiotics and I thought it was that. So maybe mine was falling out due to just being diabetic???

Of course it could just be that you two were going to get thin hair anyways - my boss at work started going thin and going bald when he was mid twenties and he's not diabetic.
I'm not a bloke, but after many many years of diabetes my hair is still thick and uncontrollable (it does what it wants lol, styling isn't an option)

I remember reading about same symptoms on a different thread. This might be a reaction to your medication, but might just be natural as previously mentioned by rokaab.

That's nigh on impossible to pinpoint. I'm far more than twice your age and have a full head of hair.

But yes, it would have bothered me at your age ... if you're willing, go see a specialist. Rogaine (Australia) and Regaine (UK) have some positive comments but it is not cheap and you might need to be patient for results. In any event, have your thyroids checked

Also,Are you experiencing any symptoms such as unusual tiredness, sore tongue, blurred vision not related to high blood sugars? If so,might be worth mentioning to the doctor as it *May* be a sign of anaemia which can sometimes cause thinning of the hair but only a blood test can really tell.

It might be telogen effluvium. Serious illness & rapid weight loss can cause it & it's most often only temporary :)
