Letter For Holiday

I am sure you have many medical reports;the most recent will do.
I was flying to Germany a month ago full of medications and insulin vials.

Since the 25th May this year you can ask your GP for a copy of your medical records - or any part of them - free of charge and which they have to provide within a calendar month of your request. Why not try this .... book an appointment with your GP or Practice Nurse (either in person or telephone preferably) and ask them what you need to do or precautions to take when travelling as a diabetic. Ask them to be sure to record what advice etc. you have been given - and then a day or two later ask for a copy of your records since the time you were diagnosed. The diagnosis and the latest doctors` advice should appear on the record and you get it free of charge. A dreadful way to `game` the system I know but no worse than your GP asking an extortionate fee for writing the same advice in a letter. You can then produce the copy record in place of a letter whenever you are asked for one.

Hi,

I am due to go on holiday abroad in a few weeks so thought I would ask the Dr for a letter that states I have diabetes and need to take my insulin etc with me in my hand held luggage (advice I have read everywhere and on the NHS website). I have just traipsed down to the surgery and got told yes, that will cost £30. I am astounded, I asked to speak to the Practice Manager who said it is classed as a 'private' letter. Ok, I suppose I can understand that but 30 quid? What a con. I won't be paying that so my question is, has anyone got any suggestions what else to take with me just in case I need to prove anything?

Good evening KK123. I travelled back and forth to Uganda for 15 years and never took a letter. I used to carry 3 months supply of Insulin in FREEO BAGS (you can buy them in Boots) - they stay cool just like in a fridge and I carried them in my carry-on cabin baggage and just explained to the Airport staff what they were - no trouble.

Hi So far in 40 years of travel - I was once stopped in Hong Kong where they took my Insulin Pen and gave it to the Purser to be returned on landing in London. I used to be stopped at security check in Perth, Australia at departure for a few years but that has stopped.
