sorry to moan but i needed someone to moan to. did my blood levels this morning before breakfast and they were 27.5. sorry but i feel like ****, thanks for listening !!!!

I suggest you are type 1 & need insulin. Even if you are type 2, you still need insulin. That level has to come down. IMHO. You could phone NHS direct.

hi hazey276,

unless you've had an massive hypo overnight and that reading is
down to rebound(which i doubt), then you really need to see
somebody (who knows what their doing) about those sugars.

good luck

Hi Hazey,

I hope you are ok, I have kept popping on this thread today to see if there has been any updates. As there hasn't been I assume you have taken the advise of all the other posters.

Wishing you well

Hi folks, sorry for the delay but i've been glued to the toilet again for nearly two days (nice, not). I rang the diabetic clinic at my local hospital and fortunately i got to speak to a doctor. He advised that i should test 3 times a day and keep written records, (over 3 day period), then go back to my GP and DEMAND what he is going to do about it. If he does nothing then change my GP asap, (lowest i've had is 14.6, and highest 27.8 which is the highest the test machine will go to but i haven't eaten for two days now and have been off work). Sorry to go on again but my emotions are shot again probably due to me feeling ill. He also said that i've been told to take my metformin SR the wrong way, i shouldn't be taking one at night and one in the morning, I should be taking them both together with my evening meal, (anyone enlighten me ?)

thanx again, going for a lie down, feel like ****

take care and best wishes to you all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You don't want your Dr, you need casualty - go in & get stabilised. You need insulin NOW, even if you eventually manage on drugs & diet.

Take your wife, so you don't get pushed out - & take your meter with you. Remind them that you are due for an investigation for something else, so you MUST be stabilised as a matter of urgency.

Hazey,

I think your specialist is probably thinking that you would be better taking the metformin with your largest meal of the day (assuming this is your evening meal). As well as reducing insulin resistance, metformin also reduces the overnight production of glucose by your liver, so again a good reason to take a stronger dose of it before bedtime. But the SR version only works for around 12 hours, so if you take all of it at say 7pm, then from 9am to 7pm the next day you have nothing that will help your insulin to deal with your breakfast and lunch. The normally recommended dosage for SR is to take them at breakfast and evening meal so that they work throughout the 24 hours. Some GPs prescribe a 500mg dose with breakfast and 1000mg in the evening.

Hazey,

I hope that you haven't posted again because you are at the hospital.

Look forward to reading good news.
