Levemir and exercise

Sorry if this has been covered before but I couldn't find it when searching.

I'm switching to levemir after about 10 years on lantus. Main reason being I've had a few issues with it absorbing too quickly.

I had a rule on lantus that I couldn't go for a run in the 6 hours after am injection (injected in thigh). It absorbed too quickly and combined with exercise this is a recipe for disaster

Can anyone tell me if I can expect the same issue with levemir? Can exercise of the muscle near an injection site cause it to absorb too quickly?

Hi @Griffter15 - I found that I had no issues with Levemir causing massive drops after injection when doing a morning injection and cycling in to work.

I would also suggest that you move your injection site from your legs to you buttocks as this will have less effect during most forms of exercise.

Well exercise can increase the blood flow to the area of injection so can lead to hypo's, but tbh I injected lantus in my legs and buttocks for years and would walk for an hour some time after injecting and never had any issues, maybe your going to have to find the answer by trial & error @Griffter15

Thanks. I've never injected there before. I've just got my prescription so I will give it a try.

Obviously not an injection to be attempted in public

If you ever wear zip off trousers, undoing the zip a short way gives access to outside of thigh. Very easy to do in public, with minimal exposure of bare flesh.
