Hi all

So far, I've only heard of it being continued in the US.
Which might be the start of a global phasing out, or it might not be.
Whichever it is, I wouldn't expect it to happen this year.

Hey, I asked this very question to NovoNordisk after seeing Levemir discontinue in the US.

Novo Nordisk have confirmed today by email 25/03/2024 -

“Thank you for your recent enquiry with regards to whether Levemir® (insulin determir) is being discontinued in the UK.

Novo Nordisk can confirm we currently have no plans to discontinue Levemir® Penfill® or FlexPen® in the UK.”

Definitely something to keep an eye on though!

Hope this helps alleviate some stress.

Tom.

I was curious so I googled to see why it is being discontinued in the US

It seems like it isn't popular with US insurance companies?

But despite the claim that there are plenty of alternatives available, I don't know of any other short acting basals? The article suggests that tresiba is a better choice because it's more convenient because it lasts longer. Not much help to someone who is using levemir because they want different coverage at different times of day?
