I have been purchasing the libre 2 for a few months now, and have been unsure whether I am eligible for VAT relief or not? Surely having diabetes would mean that I shouldn’t? But I’m not sure, the website doesn’t specify, so I was wondering if someone could tell me whether they pay VAT or if they know if we qualify for relief?

You are eligible to not pay vat, as are 99% of the libre purchasers.

The default prices are ex vat, suspect there may be something on order page to confirm that you don't pay it.

Hi,

I self funded for a couple of years & got mine from the chemist in my local ASDA?
You will be VAT exempt. I filled a quick form out for their records. & on purchase they would scan a VAT less bar code on purchase..
There should be a Vat exception box to tick on the Abbott website when ordering, from memory..

i dont think all diabetics are eligable for vat exemption i *think* its only those that are medication treated...

but only hmrc could advise how they interpret the rules.. the guidance states "a condition which the medical profession treats as a chronic sickness, such as diabetes" but obviously if you are diet controlled your condition is not being 'treated' as a chronic condition... its some years ago now that i researched it.... and i though the determination was if you qualified for prescription exemption then you qualified for the vat exemption on diabetic supplies

but would hmrc ever check? could you argue that if you didnt have the supplies you'd need treatment?
