Libre 2 Plus and arm ache

Diane57

Newbie
Hello
I have been using the Libre 2 Plus and 11 days in using a new sensor I suddeny got arm ache like I had slept funny. The next day the ache / pain which started at the top of my arm, radiated down my arm and into my wrist. The only thing I could think of was that it was the sensor. My arm is not red or swollen or hot to touch but when I tried to raise my arm it was and is very painful. I have removed the sensor and the pain in my lower arm has gone but I am still struggling to raise my arm. Has anyone else found this as I have had no problems before and this could be a coincidence. thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum @Diane57 . I must admit that has never happened to me. Do you think you could have pinched or irritated a nerve in your arm? It sounds like nerve pain, but to be honest, it's just my best guess.

Hi there, Diane.

I’ve been using the Libre sensors for around two years now, starting on Libre 2 and then switching to Libre 2 Plus very recently. In my time using them, I’ve occasionally experienced soreness in my arms if I accidentally hit a muscle (which I am prone to do often), sometimes bleeding. But usually, the pain stays on the back of my upper arms or around the area where the sensor was applied. But I haven’t experienced anything close to what you have, I’m afraid.

Going along with Melgar’s line of thinking, when you initially applied the sensor, do you remember feeling any pain then?

Alternatively, when you went to remove the sensor, did you notice anything off with it? Like if it was loose or if the needle was bent, for instance? I’m just wondering if something could have happened to the sensor to bring on this sudden onset of pain. Like, maybe, if it was accidentally knocked or had pressure applied to it.

Hello and thanks for replying and no I did not knock the sensor and it was well stuck on and the needle looked fine. It may have been a coincidence and my arm is feeling alot better now in just a few days ??? not sure what it was and I have a new sensor to put on and will see how that goes.

I’ve had something similar once. Not as bad as yours sounds but a noticable ache which disappeared a few days after the sensor was taken out. Hopefully yours will resolve itself soon ?

I had a similar thing 2 weeks ago I think the sensor had a few days remaining and had been fine.
I then woke up with a dull pain in the arm which through out the day it got so painful and my arm was so heavy I had to remove it.
The pain went almost immediately, I always fit my sensors between 24 and 48 hours in advance before it's needed something I read on here a cpl of years ago.

Hi,

I’ve had this happen once.
Felt like when you bang an elbow & the little finger & the one next to it goes numb..

@Introverted_And_Proud ,
I’ve ripped a fair few sensors off in my time & the needle was bent or crooked?
I surmised they went in straight (no issue with the sensor.) but like pulling or levering out a nail with a claw hammer, that is when they can bend?

I've always pulled my sensors off my arms using my fingers. But I recall one time (think it was with my second ever sensor, because it was around the time when I first started using them) when I attempted to remove a sensor that I had a needle bend because of the method I chose to remove it with. I, stupidly, only pulled up part of the adhesive and then decided to pull at the actual sensor. I ended up tearing half of the adhesive from the sensor, in turn bending the needle and almost breaking it off the sensor into my arm. Thankfully, I managed to take the sensor off without the needle getting stuck in my arm, but I quickly learnt my lesson that day: undo the adhesive first and then gently pull it up along with the sensor. Haven't had any bent or crooked needles since.

But yes, from my experience, I imagine how you remove the sensor could potentially cause the needle to bend. I believe there's also the likelihood of the needles bending during sensor application too. They look quite flimsy and depending on how much force is exerted and the angle the needle enters the skin from, there's a chance it could get damaged on the way in.
