Libre 2 + xDrip

Hi,

I have recently switched over to xDrip for continuous blood glucose monitoring using my Galaxy Watch 4 and am loving it so far!

My query is, with xDrip, you can obviously bypass the 2 week sensor life imposed by the official LibreLink app, so how long does the sensor actually last with xDrip? How long can I get out of it before needing to change it and will xDrip notify me if the sensor battery is nearly out?

What makes you think you can bypass the 2 weeks?
This is possible on some old Dexcom and there was a hack for Libre 1 but I am not aware if a way to extend the life of Libre 2 sensors. You will notice xDrip will show the age of the sensor on the main screen. This will change to red when the sensor is more than 10 days old.

Ah, whilst looking into setting up xDrip last week I saw somewhere someone saying that you can scan as long as you want with it and just to change it "when it started to get a bit squirrly", not sure where I saw it anymore but what you said makes sense.

I deleted the LibreLink App, But I assume I can start a new sensor using xDrip?

No you need LibreLink or the Libre Reader to start the sensor.
But recommend that you either Force Close LibreLink afterwards or disable Location Services for it (or both). Otherwise, LibreLink will grab the Bluetooth signal and you will not get it on cDrip.

Have you joined the xDrip Facebook group?
You will find instructions and help in the group.
 
Abbotts reader let's you scan a Libre 2 sensor for 14 days. If you're using xdrip you can continue to scan the sensor using your phone for an extra few hours. Can't remember exactly how many, but I think it's 12 hours.

& ooooh… I’ve extended the 14 day life by 6 hours maybe 8? using Diabox & xDrip in the past. However not with every sensor? pushing the official life of the sensor beyond those boundaries.. after that, it seems to go on a 6 hour loop..? Which could be misleading…
 
I agree it could be, but it's not something I've experienced so far.

You watch, it will probably happen when my present sensor finishes!!!

Hi,

The libre 1, From my experience. I could conveniently squeeze a few extra hours life with the Miaomiao & xDrip? (Handy when “other life stuff” gets in the way of a change of sensor for me..)
The second generation Libre? I feel Abbott have got wise to the boffins developing these great CGM experience apps.. Express caution with every extended life you feel you’ve wrung out of the sensor.

I make sure my sensor is calibrated within 0.6Mmol? Things can get sketchy with the graph with the independent apps over stepping the “lifecycle” of an L2. ;)
