Prediabetes Libre and iPhone 7

Hello,
I got my 12-year-old daughter an iPhone 7 for Christmas so she could scan using her phone. However, even though the app seems to be working, the phone won’t scan the sensor at all. The phone says ‘ready to scan’, but nothing happens. It works fine with my iPhone 8, but this is no help when my daughter is at school.
Any idea what we could do to resolve the problem?

The iPhone 7 is listed as compatible. Firstly check that the operating system is 11.11 or higher.

Have you checked that iPhone's Near Field Communication (NFC) is turned on?

How did you 'start' the sensor, did you do it with a phone or the Libre reader?

I just came back to write what @LooperCat has now already stated above.

Each sensor has it's own unique ID and when the sensor is 'started' that ID gets logged in the sofware of the device which starts it.
If you 'started' the sensor with the iPhone8, then the iPhone7 will not recognise the sensor.

The operating system is 13.3.
I did wonder if it was the NFC, but haven’t yet found how to turn it on/off. I will check it.

Hello, thank you for replying.
I knew that so, when I started a new sensor, I used the iPhone 7 (after the Libre reader), not my iPhone 8. Still no joy.
 
My dad is currently using Libre, and the nfc chip on his year old iPhone 10 just stopped working and couldn’t read the sensor. Could be that.

Thanks. The trouble is that I can’t find where to turn the NFC on/off. I have downloaded a QR scanner app, and that doesn’t scan either. So hopefully it is the NFC button which I just need to locate.
 
From a Home screen, navigate: Apps > Settings.
From the Wireless & networks section, tap More.
Slide the NFC switch to turn on or off .
If presented, review "Turn on NFC" disclaimer and tap OK.

You may need to down load an App for NFC tag scanning from the app store.

this is for I phone 7 and above and ios 11 up.

Hi,

QR & NFC are different ways of contactless scanning. Think of QR readers & the box codes they scan more like visual a "barcode" on a retailed product.

NFC, identifies the sensor & the data in the readings collated. It needs to be switched on & working to pick up the Libre near field transmission.

Two ideas come to mind. Did you scan with the iPhone 7 within the 1 hour window after using the reader?
Are you using the Abbott "Librelink" app to tie the sensor in with the phone?

Thanks for replying.
I waited until after the first hour after applying a new sensor, then tried scanning with the 7.
Yes, I am using the LibreLink app. I have always used it fine with my 8, and I never turned on an NFC button. Just can’t understand why the 7 won’t scan. Can’t find an NFC button anywhere on the phone, even in settings/WiFi and networks (don’t have this) and there is no ‘more’ anywhere.
Starting to feel discouraged even more than my daughter.

Thank you. That’s what I thought, but somewhere I found that you needed to download a QR app in order to be able to scan a Libre. Still can’t find how to turn on an NFC button on iPhone 7, if that is the issue.

There is no ´Wireless and networks’ section. All I have is WiFi, Bluetooth, mobile data and personal hotspot. None of them have an NFC button, and nowhere is there a ‘more’ button.

Any ideas?

I used an iPhone 7 to scan (no reader). I downloaded the librelink app but had nothing whatsoever to do with QR anything.

I wondered if you left it too long after activating it with the reader before using the iphone but if that was the case the iPhone 8 you used even later wouldn’t have worked either.

No, it’s not that. You just have to make sure you start the sensor with the reader, not the phone, but after the reader has started the sensor, you can use your phone, and even change phones. Only one phone can be logged in to the sensor at one though. It’s just that the 7 won’t read the sensor.
