Hi all,

last night i got a letter dated from 15th may but only just arrived yesterday from the DVLA saying because i hadnt returned my questionnaire about informing them i have diabetes type one that my licence will be revoked on the 20th may which is today. i got the questionnaire after ringing up to inform them and they said they would send a questionnaire, nowhere on the letter or over the phone said that this would happen. does anyone know what i can do about it? :O(

Hi Ebony.

Contact the DVLA at the address and phone number on the form immediately and do not drive until it is sorted.

If your licence has been revoked it will be automatically entered on the PNC (Police National Computer) and you will be in serious trouble if stopped. No licence means No Insurance cover as well.

Get it sorted ASAP.

Ken

I actually dont drive yet i wasnt far away from taking my test before i was diagnosed jan this year. so i dont drive anyway as advised to stop taking lessons until my blood suagr was at a stable reasonable level. I was just wondering if there was any way to petition it being revoked... im going to call them today on my break at work but wanted a leg to stand on so to speak

thanks for your reply

If your driving licence is revoked or refused by the medical adviser at DVLA you will be:

provided with a medical explanation of why this decision was taken. Wherever possible DVLA will advise you when you can re-apply for your licence

sent notice that will explain your right of appeal to a Magistrates’ Court if you live in England or Wales, or to a Sheriff Court if you live in Scotland.

Best to speak direct to them as it may not yet have actually been revoked. Just will be.

Ken.

Good luck ebony, hope you get it sorted. Apparently DVLA never get it wrong, according to them at least.

I always had a 3 year licence which they revoked one year because I hadn't returned the renewal forms. The forms that never arrived that is. And no reminder letter "still waiting to receive your renewal" type of thing. The licence just lapsed and lucky I noticed. It eventually took 6 months to get it back, and I lost count of the money it cost me through contracts I was unable to fulfil.

Thanks, when i called them to do the right thing and tell them i was diag
nosed with diabetes they never said it could be revoked. then they give me 4 days and the letter arrived the day before! so i never had a chance. and i would have sent it off but the section where it said are you hypo aware there was one time when i didnt realise i was 2.3 so i left it a week and we to talk to my diabetes nurse and he said because im only 21 and quite fit and diabetes is my only health problem i have a high tolerence for low blood sugar. then the week after i had to go for a retina scan my first outpatient review and have a biopsy for possible breast cancer so it was all pushed to the back of my mind and now this grrrr. they sure know how to make my day. and i dont quite understand why they would revoke it. especially after she told me over the phone that i could carry on with lessons before they got the questionnaire back!! quite hypocritical! luckily it wont cause me any trouble like it did you as i dont actually drive but i was two months away from my test before i got dianosed and now this!

There've been a lot of reports recently of people getting the wrong groups on their renewed licences and DVLA refusing to back down or admit they made a mistake even when it is proved to them that they did. AFAICR a motorcycle cop being refused a motorbike licence unless he took a test all over again.

It's getting to the point that it's a story in the papers when they get things right instead :(
