Lidl Pork Belly

I have had a breakfast of Lidl Pork belly. I had some yesterday and did feel quite sick when I got to work, but there's been a bug going around and I thought I had got it. I felt much better this morning and had the final two slices, cooked with some butter in the oven.

I ate that, no problems, cycled to work.

I'm sitting at my desk now, having had two episodes of a racing heart beat. I have dizziness, I feel sick, I have a stomach ache and I feel nauseous. Most of these are usual symptoms for my having had a spike in sugars. I've looked up the nutritional values and can't see anything that would cause this (i.e. no injection of glucose, carbs - at least, not declared on the packet).

I mentioned the brand to be very specific. I appreciate that Lidl is a 'cheap' supermarket and might possibly bypass some requirements? Or it might be the cut of meat, but I have pork belly from my local butcher with no issues at all. Is this the brand (wonder if Aldi is the same?) or what? Too much protein? I am in menopause which sometimes affects the way my body processes fat and I had an upset tummy which is an indication of that as well, so perhaps too much fat? Perhaps too much fat too early in the morning?

I am concerned because right now I feel as though I can't even sit upright in my chair, and I'd really like to go and lose my breakfast down the toilet. I am really thirsty, so I'm going to go and drink about a gallon of water.

Hi - sorry to hear you're unwell. I've had Lidl pork belly several times in the past (I use my own butcher for preference) with no problems related to glucose - it is afaik just the meat, nothing else. I don't think they can 'bypass' requirements - it's either a legal requirement, or it isn't. You could possibly have got a bad batch.

Nothing rules out another type of bug, whether the one going round at your work or whatever - it's not always about carbs and blood glucose. And nausea etc can have many causes. Have you tested your BG?

Sorry you are feeling so ill.

I often eat Lidl pork belly and have never had a problem of any kind with it, but I am not you, and if this is a first time for you it could be anything. Most likely a horrible tummy bug.

@Mayfly , it does sound like a tummy bug. I might add that I cannot eat animal fat without feeling like throwing up. That puke feeling lasts the entire day. Pork belly is very fatty. I wouldn’t be able to tolerate it. I get stomach ache along with the puke feeling and (sorry for the poop reference) I get steatorrhea which means excess fat in your poop.

I hope you start to feel better.
