Hi all,

I wondered if those UK based can advise on life assurance? I'm recently diagnosed, and now in a position where life assurance is necessary. Mainstay providers, however, don't seem to want to touch me with a barge pole due to t1dm. What is everyone's experience of this?

Here’s a link on the website here at DCUK that has some info and advice about life insurance, I don’t know if it’s any use to you as haven’t read any of it but it may help you to look in the right direction

Thanks for the link. I'll take a look and hopefully find something a little more up beat than what I've experienced to date!

@SherwoodT1 , were you looking at pure life assurance (pay out on your demise) , or did you want to include critical illness cover(pay out on certain medical conditions)?

Part of your challenge will be that you have just been diagnosed, so have no history of how you manage your condition. How well you look after yourself can have a significant bearing on how underwriters will view you.

Even if you can’t find acceptable terms now, that might change in a year or two.

I managed to get life insurance fine. The challenge is you won’t get critical illness cover. It depends on which you want.

The aim was for critical illness cover. But, the broker we've used was stumped by each and every provider refusing outright to provide any level of cover for myself. I've heard of providers that specifically specialise in providing cover for individuals with diabetes. I wondered if anyone had any experience with these providers. I'll keep persisting, and falling that, check back after some time has passed. Thanks for the help!
