Lifespan For Type 1 Diabetes Patients Getting Longer

Hi I have just read the article and it is very good news  Type 1 is for life and ( until one day a cure will be found) we are hopeful that it will be an extended life.

quote:In type 1 diabetes, insulin-producing Beta cells (stained green) are destroyed by the patient's immune system:quote Fascinating to see the destroyed cells in colour.
BTW, The Beta cells photogragh shows the same green colour that I have been painting a room in my house , its the very same colour, mine is called spring leaf  Best wishes RRB

That article mentioned mortality rate. I've just done a google and it's the percentage number of deaths in a given time frame. Does it mean 11% of all diabetics born between 1965 and 1980 have now died? I can't conceptualise mortality rate, I wish they'd given the average lifespan in years.

Wow. So weird seeing those dead beta cells.

I'm pondering the statement about T2s that obesity causes it. I always thought the weight gain was a result of insulin resistence and therefore continued increased insulin production until eventually (if uncontrolled) the beta cells wear out?
