Hi all. Sorry it's a long ramble! Also a bit of a rant!

Struggling to lose weight and was considering Lighterlife VLCD as I did this 15 years ago with great success. (pre insulin, was on Gliclazide and Dapagflozin, which I had to stop when I started the programme) Life and bereavements took over and yes, i'm back there again!

I have Fibro, chronic pain and Osteoarthritis and need a hip replacement but need to lose 2 st to get my bmi to 35 and another 3 after that to get in normal range

My GP has okay'd me to do it as long as the DN in the hospital community team is willing to support me. He will monitor all other meds.

She is not keen because of the low calories and wants me to go onto Mounjaro.

Her reasoning is lack of carbs and difficulty in adjusting my insulin. My argument is that this is similar to the Newcastle plan and all the foodpacks have the carb and nutritional details on, so surely I can bolus as normal but my basal would need to decrease, or stop? Also that she said on Mounjaro I would have to cut carbs and cals anyway! I kind of feel her argument is pro box ticking because the clinic want you on the jab.

She is obvs concerned about hypos but also said i'd prob go hyper and/or get dka!

I said I don't want the risk of Pancreatitis or possibility of Thyroid Cancer, not to mention the gastric stuff as I have ibs as it is!

I am T2, insulin dependant and have Libre on script. At the moment I use a lot of insulin, 1u per 5g Trurapi at meals and 65u Tresiba at night. My last hba1c was 8.3% and i'm getting nowhere fast tbh.

I exercise as much as I can with the pain etc.

I want to put my foot down and don't want the jab, I take lots of meds which have unwanted side effects as it is. Her answer is that " people are desperate to get their hands on the jab and you're saying no?"

Well, yes, I am!

I don't know what to do. I was under the care of a Consultant but they fudged me onto the Community team because they said I don't need one but the surgery DN's can't "manage patients on insulin!" I mean...really!

Does she have to support my decision, albeit begrudgingly? Surely she can get advice? I feel I can't "go it alone" because i'll need guidance, or maybe have to stop the insulin.

I know no one can advise on that aspect of course.

Anyone here done Lighterlife and on insulin?

Thanks.
