If I was confused before I'm even more confused now :? I've been enjoying using this site this last couple of weeks and have learnt a lot about Type 2.This last month My eyesight is really bothering me .it's blurred especially after say 10 minutes reading or on the PC or watching TV.I've had my new specs for 6 weeks now after a thorough eye check that found I was starting with Cataracts on both eyes,my new specs seemed very good.I've also been having some fainting do's,the last being when I had my MRI 2weeks ago,it took 45 minutes and when I eventualy stood upI just passed out and ended up with a completely black knee, which I fell on,it's stil painful and now bright red and hot!.Anyway I was due to go for my flue jab last Friday so I thought I'd better mention these things to the Nurse, she's the same one who sees me for the Diabetes. When I went into the surgeryher first words were"I'm so fed up with these flue jabs thank goodness we're nearly at the end of them!I showed her my knee, she didn't even look at it,I mentioned the fainting and blurred vision!Nothing was said about the fainting and she told me the blurred vision was something for my optition and nothing to do with Diabetes. Then she told me I wasn't due for a check up till February and that I'd had a test in August, she said not to forget because they don't remind us anymore, then she opened the door and off I went.I read the post about blurred vision and thats why I mentioned it but I needn't have bothered.I've come to the conclusion that now I'm 62 the only person to help me is myself, and this site.Even the Neurologist said, in a copy of the letter sent to my GP after my Appointment 3 weeks ago,"Mrs R seems to be carrying a lot of BAGGAGE!with the Arachnoiditis etc ":( I'm past cross now and am going to take matters into my own hands.I'm buying myself a meter this weekend and have started on Vitamins etc(despite my Doctor not believing in them!!)As I said this site is really good and I know it's up to me now. Thanks, take care,Ginnie :D

Good for you for taking control and buying a meter.

Blurred vision can have many causes including high sugar levels, so it was wrong for your nurse to say it had nothing to do with your diabetes. Yes it may have nothing to do with your diabetes but she can't say that without investigating your BG levels.

Good luck with the meter and finding out what is really going on in your body, you will be able to control things for yourself once you get to grips with it all.

I would go to your doctor with that knee if it is still hot and inflamed ! Get him to check your blood pressure as well, lying and standing, to see if there is a difference.

Thanks for the reply.I've actually been out today,Saturday is my weekly "airing" !and Richard took me to Boots where I bought my Meter. So now I'm going to read up about it and get going.I think I need to to do it because these last 2 mornings I've woken after a couple of hours sleep, around 3.30 am in such a sweat, feeling really sick and dizzy I actually thought I was going to faint,I've a habit of doing that lately :( Anyway I got myself a drink of Lucozade and a biscuit and after a short while I felt better, just exhausted. It happened when I was shopping as well this afternoon so I've definately got to get it sorted.I'll let you know how I get on,thanks again,Virginia.

Your blurred vision CAN be diabetes linked. If you improve your bg control, eyes often respond, by getting blurry. So think back, could that be an explanation? they settle eventually. In addition, I have mild cataracts and they don't interfere with my reading or TV watching, in fact only low level sun in my eyes, which "flares" in my eyes tell me I have the condition.
If the knee is sore as a result of an injury in the hospital, go to A&E and let them sort it out.

Have you been sent for a retinopathy screening as part of your diabetes treatment?

Hi Yes I had my first Retinopathy check in February.I saw my Gp on Wednesday and she thinks it could also be because of my high BP at the moment. On Tuesday I had another Angina attack so she thinks its all tied in with the Diabetes. So now I'm waiting for an appointment with a Cardiologist and the Neurologist!I got my meter at the weekend so am doing a week testing before meals and 2 hours after.I started Sunday and it was 12.3 and after 11.9.Then Tuesday I'd got it ddown to 9.5 and 9.00 and Yesterday I was really pleased it was 6.8 then 8.3 at bedtime.I'm going to do low carb so have started reading A year with Type2.I've been ordered :( to rest this week so am reading that and all about Carbs!I think because I have so many different problems, getting my diet sorted is important.
