Hi all I have been wondering for awhile if i am type 2
my doctor has run 2 hcbc fasting tests 6 mths apart and i come back at 5 to6%
on my first test she thought i was pre diabetic, carrying alot of extra weight

I low carbed for 2 mths lost just over a stone she did another fasting test and said i was fine

recently however i have episodes of being suddenly really tired I mean to the point i struggle to function

so just now took my bloods on husband meter one touch and it came out at 8.9mml

I must admit the meal tonight was very high carb (see my previous threads about PN) husband needs to gain weight
i had my meal at 18:30 took my blood at 21:00

i am always very thirsty but have been all my life also all my life i get up to pee in the night and take a drink
a diet i went on sends you into ketosis I am wondering if i have damaged myself

I think you may be heading for pre diabetes but are not there yet based upon your Hba1c tests. Your post prandial readings are a little high but if it was a high carb meal what do you expect. Eat less carbohydrates is advice I would give to healthy people who had never heard of diabetes.

Hi andreaabbott1,

I was thinking that your higher readings after the carby meal might be due to physiological insulin resistence.

How low carb are you? And what are your readings when you low carb?

Andrea if you have been in ketosis then your body will raise your natural insulin resistance so that your muscles and not utilise the glucose and it is left for other areas of your system. This is known as physiological IR and is natural and reversible by the body as required. An 8.9 after low carbing after a large carb laden meal is perfectly normal but your body is not used to it and therefore you get slightly higher levels than you would expect. Have the same amount of carbs for a few days and you will see that those numbers come down. Yes you will feel drowsy and this is quite normal. Your brain in swimming in syrup and is one of the reasons people sleep after a large meal (not the only one)
