As people are forever saying on here, we're all different. Some can improve their morning fasting bg by avoiding eating a large meal too near to bedtime. Some can do it by eating a small snack just before bed. Some people never can do it, despite getting low readings at all other times. Metformin may be a help. Well done on the LCHF. Rises after meals are probably more important than fasting bg. Don't forget, the fattier the meal, the longer it may take for digestion and for your bg to rise, so the longer the gap there needs to be before bed.

Unfortunately there is no way to stop the old liver dump. Its your body getting us ready for the day ahead

I am of the opinion that whether you eat a hearty meal in the late evening or not it is history by morning. I say this because Dawn Phenomena happens in all of us, Diabetes or no Diabetes. It may make a difference if you are one who has a condition causing very slow stomach digestion.

I have read of members who say that they wake, test and then have a bite to eat and this stems the rise of bg levels due to DP. Fasting levels are tricky and the effects of insulin resistance play such a big part in this that only time and good management improve this splurge and turn it into a gentler trickle.

Pretty much everyone has a liver dump to some degree regardless whether they have diabetes or not. It is useful to give us the energy to start the day: it is the way a healthy liver works.
The difference between someone with a fully working pancreas and most of this on this forum is the fully working pancreas can react to the liver dump and maintain steady BG whereas someone with diabetes will see their BG rise.

With diabetes, we are looking for ways for our body (with external assistance) to react to the liver dump with some insulin.
For someone with type 1 this may be to wake up and inject insulin at 4am.
As @Alexandra100 says, people find different ways to manage it with type 2.

You Liver tends to start this annoying habit on the day you are born, and stops on the day you die.

Logically, other than bringing the latter event forward unnecessarily, the best way to reduce the impact is to reduce the amount of excess BG that ends up being stored there. It won't happen quickly, but by following a LC diet you should get there eventually.

Until then I would celebrate the fact that your body is still working properly, and doesn't appear to want to stop doing so.

If the high readings carry on for most of the day, I'd try dropping your carb intake lower. Are you testing before and 2 hours after meals? How big a rise are you seeing? Would you like to describe a typical day, with food intake and readings?

To experience a lover dump every morning you must have an extremely turbulent love life!!! Perhaps the stress of it all is raising your bgs.

Predictive text drove me insane until I found out how to switch it off. I have quite enough trouble with my own typing errors.
