i suffer unexpected highs at irregular times and following experiments and changes to food, insulin and eating times realise that the chances of these highs are the cause of Liver dumps. Having read about the effects of liver dumps and/or Dawn phenonaman it also fits with my experiances.

My question is can alchohol cause the onset of Liver dumps???

My theory is that alchohol may weaken the livers strength over a period of time resulting in the liver dumping process

Please note i am fully aware of the implications of alchohol and consequent high/low readings the following day and do make allowance for this.......for information my liver dumps can occur mid week where i have had little or no alchohol in prior days

I believe liver dumps occur when your blood glucose drops to near hypo levels, thats when the liver kicks in and releases glucose into your blood. Alcohol will actually stop your liver from releasing glucose into the blood while it deals with the alcohol.

If your highs are caused by liver dumps then your bg levels must be dropping to hypo levels between meals. I would speak to your diabetic team about this.

Sorry I cant be any more help but perhaps a T1 will be able to give more information.
