Thank you for your reply bulkbiker. I do eat a lot of fruit, especially red grapes and satsumas. After looking up chronic liver disease on Dr. Google I am imagining dreadful things but you think it can be cured or reversed ? That would be brilliant, I have not been a good diabetic, though since last week I have been eating only low carb and signed up and started a 3 month fitness class. I really hope this helps as my stomach has been feeling uncomfortable for some time now but since I started low carbing last week, most of that feeling has gone. Sorry for the essay !
Please can anyone help. I recently had an ultrasound to check for gallstones. My GP has texted me the results(which came through at 3.30am this morning on my phone!) It says that it did not show gallstones but it showed chronic liver disease due to fatty liver. I am beside myself with worry now. The text casually said that I can arrange a routine GP telephone conversation on Monday to discuss the result.
That’s really bad, my doctor will leave a message asking me to call to discuss but never give a diagnosis in this way.Hi KK,yes the text was extremely blunt ! My past blood tests have all been totally normal.
Hi Tricia Ws, you fill me with hope, I hope I can reverse this.
So a major change in about 6 months?Hi Andydragon, I had bloods done end of September and my ALT level is 22. All the rest of my Liver function tests were normal also on that test.
it showed chronic liver disease due to fatty liver
You make a good point. Diabetes is a chronic condition too of course. It might help to point out that "chronic" doesn't mean serious, bad, dangerous or anything.
It just means that it is a long term condition instead of a short term condition like a cold.
A lot of medics don't realise that the punters don't understand all the terminology and this probably wasn't a serious or urgent matter for the GP - just something that needed to be discussed to review treatment.
I assume that you need to confirm that it is Non Alcoholic (you should know).
Changing your eating habits should hopefully clear out your liver.
It could quite possibly clear out your pancreas as well if you are lucky.
It is great that you'll get follow up tests and that your doctor recommended low carb.So....a doctor from the surgery phoned me this morning(not the one that sent the blunt text). He says the scan shows fat infiltration of the liver so now I have to have a whole load of blood tests done for the liver and he is referring me for a fibroscan. He said that the scan did not show any damage to the liver but that this is standard tests to double check that nothing else is going on. He said that it is fatty liver disease but that it can be stopped in its tracks. He said to eat low carb, low fat, high protein,no sugar. Actually he said keep the carbs as low as possible. I was surprised that he has told me not to eat avacado at all(which i was eating until now). My question is, can I eat eggs(i forgot to ask the doctor) and also can I eat walnuts ? Does anybody know or does anyone have any other suggestions. All offers of advice greatly welcome.
