I'm 52 yrs old & I'm type 2 diabetic. I'm on both tablets & 2 lots of insulin.I take a lot of other medications (43) tablets a day, plus 2 lots of eye drops. The last 15mths I haven't been able to sleep more then 3-4 hrs a nite.I also suffer with a bad knee (waiting to have a op on it) So basically with all these problems i'm having, I am scared because I live alone & I can't afford to eat diabetic healthy, my sugar levels are up & down most of the time(but under control ish) I'm scared that if I have a hypo/hyper it could be days before friends would find me :'( In the last few mths I've put on loads more weight, mainly because I can't walk to far because of my knee & lake of sleep leaving me energy less:-( Can anyone help me with advise? Sorry if it seems I've gone all round the block to tell you what I wanted to, but Im not very good with words or asking for help. But I feel like giving up..... :'(

Hi, first DON'T give up. That is the most important thing. There is a hypo awareness course on line that you can do. This will raise your awareness to hypos and make you able to tell what is happening and take action. There are a lot of people on this forum who eat a low carb diet. To start with you feel hungry , but it gets better quickly and I have kept my bloods under control and LOST weight :)
keep your chin up -- people here will give you lots of support .

I live alone and have multiple chronic illnesses, not easy. But I've found one huge bonus in that I don't have to buy foods that I can't eat for others so there's never any high carb foods at home to tempt me, makes sticking to low carb a whole lot easier ;)

Well, you certainly seem to have quite a lot on your plate.

What sort of budget do you allow yourself for food a week/month? Do you shop in store, or do you have Internet deliveries?

I cannot move much because of spinal problems and rarely get more sleep than four hours and that isn't quality sleep.
Yet .... I've lost three stone through the LCHF lifestyle.
I have no idea though if it's more expensive than a normal diet .... I wouldn't have thought so.
All the best.

Hi @Gadgetman52,

Please don't give up, we will try to help you.

Do you have a Consultant or Diabetes Specialist Nurse who looks after you? If the answer is yes then please get in touch with them and explain your predicament as they will be able to help you as you are on insulin. They are usually contactable by email or phone. If the answer is no then you need an urgent appointment with your G.P. and he needs to refer you to a Specialist. You have to explain to him how you are feeling as he is not a mind reader and can help you. If you find it difficult then copy your post and show him how desperate you are.

You take a lot of tablets and do any of these mean that you have to limit what you do and don't eat? Do you know if any of them alter your blood sugar levels? Has anyone ever done a medication review with you? Sometimes medications need changing as one may contradict another.

Please do something because you are entitled to help and you obviously need it.
