lizis gronola crunch and asda pasta

This morning i tried lizis gronola crunch on recomendation from wallycorker who i would like to shake his hand. On first impression i thought what a rip off £5 for a 500g bag but looks are very deceiving. I had a 50g portion with a handfull of rasberries and a coffee all with skimmed milk. I didnt do a fasting test but the 1 hour test has shown 5.3 after 1 hour.(weetabix being 10.5 after 1 hour so a big smile right now) Will let you all no what happens after 2and 3 hours.Thank you wally looks like i have a easy cereal to take to work with me woohoo. Does anybody no if the over flavours are ok because i noticed they were cheaper but did not have the low gl advertised alll over the bag. Also if any one is intrested i have found a very tasty cheap past which seems to do very well with my blood sugars .It is chilli penne drum wheat pasta. the packaging quotes 100g of pasta has 30.2 g of carbs. i meaured 40 grams out which after cooking is actually 80 grams so be carefull when measuring . I put half away for today to have cold with salad . i had the other 40g with salad cheese and ham. 6.2 post meal 6.4 after 1hour 6.7 after 2 . i had a apple on the 3rd hour and tested 6.4 after 1 hour. remember 20 grams of uncooked pasta turns into 40 g after cooking. FINALLY IM GETTING SOMEWHERE DUE TO TEST TEST TEST . Once again thanks wally pstttttt is it worth adding a few shreddies to the crunch or is that being a pig?
 
Glad that it seems to have been of assistance to you. Where did you find Lizi's because Tesco seem to have stopped selling it? Lizi's have a website with all the information that you need about the various products - I think that they are all Low-GL. Also, you can buy in bulk from the website at reduced prices. I hadn't remembered that it to be as expensive as that price is secondary to me these days - it's the results that count. Your readings sound very similar to those that I recorded some time back. I haven't been eating it recently because I've preferred to steer clear of cereals of any kind.

If you like pasta, then I think that spelt pasta will do good for your bllod glucose levels also if you can find it. Someone told me it's sold in Waitrose. Again Tesco used to do spelt as spaghetti but they seem to have stopped selling that too.

I'll take a look to see if I can find the results of my testing on Lizi's granola and post them here. I do remember posting them on at least one of these diabetes forums. If I find them, I'll add them to this thread.

Glad you have found a cereal that works for you. I cannot say that my results with this product did anything to make me choose it again.

After 2hr.......9.7
After 3hr.......8.2
It just goes to show our different reactions to different foods.

Testing and portion control, exercise, (necessary for heart health), and no added stress is the way to good management. We will all get blips from time to time and nothing is certain about our future with this chronic condition.

It is nice to hear from someone who is getting there. Keep up the good work.

Here are results of tests that I carried out on Lizi's granola back in May:

7.2 - 60 mins after eating
7.2 - 90 mins after eating
5.3 - 120 mins after eating

4.9 - 60 mins after eating

5.2 before
50g Granola, dried goji berries (5g), with skimmed milk
6.8 - 60 mins after eating
6.8 - 90 mins after eating
7.1 - 120 mins after eating

5.9 - 60 mins after eating
6.8 - 90 mins after eating
6.8 - 120 mins after eating

Hi again,

Now that you've got me looking back, as far as products that gave me good results are concerned, I found that pulse spaghetti gave good results too. Tesco used to sell their own brand but again they have stopped selling that product too.

If you or anyone else knows where to find it or similar products then I'd be interested?

Only had a pint of no added sugar blackcurrent drink inbetween
may have to try this again at night just to make sure but loads of different flavours on goodcarbfoodcompany even chocolate so il be ordering a bucket load. no more sitting on loading bays worrying if the cereal im eating is any good lol . I found it at waitrose which is a result for me because iceland is next to it where i get my frozen tikka chicken strips to throw in salads (excellent results with these too). Cant wait for my hb1ac test in jan now lol. also i think peope should have a read of this mendosa.com/gilists.htm i have found it has open a lot more variety for me.
 
This test has shown me that different people are affected differently by foods even where most are having good results. I was really excited about Lizi's granola and my goodness it's delicious! Alas my few minutes of heaven were shattered when I tested myself after two hours. Tested before 7.9 two hours after 14.6. I see the carbohydrate level is stated as being 46.2 g and sugar 9.1g per 100g both of which are way higher than what I would normally attempt so I wasn't madly confident to start with, but was shall I call it optimistically hopeful. Oh well I'm glad it works for many people. I'm going to give it another go tomorrow but I fear I am going to have the same result.
 
how much did you have ? i have 50g mixed with blueberries. i woke this morning with a bg of 5.9 after that granola i was 5.0 after 1 hour 5.0 after 2 i couldnt believe it. by the way which flavour did you try. the pecan nuts and the apple and cinamen werent much cop for me but all the other ones even the belgian chocalate one gave outstanding results
 
I can't use it either as I had 50 grams for breakfast and achieved the first double figures since I started cutting out the carbs. :shock: A real shame because it is very tasty.

I am restricting myself to a teaspoonful mixed with more seeds and scattered over my yoghurt and fruit which is ok and gives me a bit of a crunch. :roll:
 
I got some of this last week and tried it one morning for breakfast - the treacle & pecan

well usually I have a bacon sandwich in two slices of burgen bread or a 30g bowl of porridge with skimmed milk and berries - both these never put me over 6 (3 tests over 3 hrs) and I am always at about 4.5 before my lunch usually 4 hrs after breakfast

well my day with lizis 50g with yogurt and a few berries

before breakfast (fasting) 5.8

Take meds of 1 met & i glic - usual routine

I hr - 5.5
2 hr 4.8
about 20 mins before my 3 hr check was feeling a bit light headed and getting my hypo signs so did a check 3.4!!! :shock: - have never gone this low unless I am late for a meal- so don't really know what to do now - do I just not eat it or do I maybe have a bit more than the 50g and test that?

Would welcome your thoughts

All this Granola talk made me do some web searches as I have proven over and over again that cereals take me over my limit but I did used to enjoy a muesli for breakfast, Before Diabetes!
I just put in "homemade low carb granola" in my search and up came a website that had Mr Breakfast in it's makeup (not sure if that is allowed to be said) and his nut and seed crunchy Granola is just wonderful and easy to make.
I have 4 heaped tablespoons in my breakfast bowl with my full cream milk, tested before and one hour later and I am right in my desired range (4.7-5.4). However, when I became adventurous and added a heaped tablespoonful of Greek Yoghurt I go out of my range, but I can cope without the yoghurt. I did add some dried Barberries into the mix but next batch will add them after the oven toasting as it killed any potential for taste or benefit I felt.
Hope this is useful to the sensitive types (like me)!

I'd never thought of making my own. However, I'll give it a go.

By the way what are "barberries"?

I had to look up Barberry too, John. Said the Common Barberry is a well known bushy shrub found in copses and hedges in some parts of England. Amongst Italians it is known as the Holy Thorn as it was thought to have formed some of the Crown of Thorns used in the crucifixion. I only used them because I had them. I think any dried, unsweetened berry would be fine or some frozen or fresh ones added at serving time. Just wanted to add some extra Vitamin C and colour!
It is really easy, just assemble the goods, measure, combine, pour over melted butter, mix and pop in oven to toast. When cooled I put in a box and store in the fridge. Hot or cold milk to serve.
 
Just picked up some Chilli Penne Pasta from Asda, 30.2g of carb, 0.6g sugar, per 100gms.
Cost 87p for 500gms.
I also picked up some garlic and basil linguini. 29.5g of carb, 0.3g sugar per 100gms.
Cost 87pence for 500gms.
I haven't tried either of them yet, so can't say what they taste like. Will experiment tonight with baked tuna pasta.
 
the pasta is hot. dont forget that pasta swells so if you cook 50g it will weigh 100g after cooking. i have about 20g before cooking and add it to salads. you will laugh when you see how much 20g is but if you cook a batch i add it to salads in the week for the next few days. this pasta slow releases on me normally the highest point on the 3 hr mark
 
and don't forget that is the cooked weight for the carb content
(most dry pasta has about 75g carbs per hundred)
 
I have looked in Tesco's for the chocolate Lizi's granola, but they don't stock it, where else could I try?
