lo-carb sausages

The Pork Farmer ones are nice - but they're expensive. As long as you steer clear of the really cheap sauages, most are ok for lo-carbers...

Hi Squirrel,
steer well clear of cheap sausages, they use lots of rusk (ie wheat flour and breadcrumbs) to fill them out a bit, not to mention parts of meat we don't usually eat. So the more expensive sausaes are not only tastier but healthier too. Eg M&S have a lovely sausage 0.8g carbs per sausage and 97% meat content, buy 2 pks for £4.00, 12 sausages in total and the really best bit for an coeliacs out there, they are gluten free, they use rice flour in the sausages. well tasty,

Hi

Just to add to the above, any sausage that is labelled gluten free or suitable for coeliacs will also be very low in carbohydrate due to using more meat than cereal.

Sainsburys also sell gluten free sausages such as Debbie & Andrew, Blackfarmer and also their own brand; Taste The Difference - Scillian and Toulouse. These taste great and are about 2gram of carb per sausage.

I have the Herta frankfurters - my son has rediscovered hot dogs since we have an Ikea less than 10 minutes walk away from our house and they do plain hot dogs in a bread roll for 50p!!! Best thing is, the Herta ones are virtually identical and only 0.7 carbs per sausage!!

Toulouse sausages in Morrisons are 1g per sausage and are delicious!

just read the nutrition panel and keep away from anything over 5g carb per 100g product. I get looks in waitrose, but I look at all kinds of sausaes available on the day.

PS frankfurter are often very low in carb

I've tried the 'jimmys farm' low carb sausages. (think there was a topic about them recently)

they were nice enough.

Bought them thinking 'yey I can have these no problem' shamed to say ended up throwing 2 away as they'd gone out of date and well passed their best in the back of my fridge.

Guess I'm not that bothered by sausages

I have just started blood glucose testing so wanted a low carb sausage for lunch. Bought some of 'Jimmy's' sausages. Something like 0.3 grams of carbs to every 100g, gluten free - very nice. No gristly lumps, herbs not too strong AND made with real skin - as sausages should be. Son said he could see the veins on the skins. He hates the tough 'plastic' ones many manufacturers use. More expensive than most but would definitely recommend trying. Ate two with salad - no problems with 2 hour results.

Supermarket wise The Black Farmer and Debbie & Andrews are nice and have a high meat content.
