Spiders, peas and most of all diabetes!
I've been on HCLF since 13 February with spectacular results. I'm frequently testing my blood and my daily average has been around 5.8 for weeks with very little fluctuation. However last Saturday I had a night away staying with my son in London. We went to a lovely burger place (Byrons) and I had a beautiful burger, bunless, but treated myself to courgette fried in batter and an onion ring. I forgot to test 2 hours later but at bedtime my reading was 5.5 so I was well chuffed! However the next morning my reading was 8.0 and for the whole of this week it's been averaging about 6.5, and almost always been over 7 in the mornings. Yesterday was the first day it went back to normal, averaging 5.5. Is this likely to be the result of my lapse or should I look for other causes? Would it normally take several days to get back to normal, would like to know if that's the case to enable me to make informed choices in the future. Thanks in advance for any help or advice x

Batter might have done it on morning after, but seriously, nothing to worry about at all. Other days, it could have been liver dump, could be any minor infection, could be anything. Those figures are (all in all) just fine so relax particularly since you're back to the 5s. Mike :)

Wow .. You are on HCLF (high carbs low fat) with good results .... Do please share what you are eating .. I only got my sugars down with the low carb high fat way of eating ...

I've read a number of extracts which suggest it takes our metabolic system about a week to rebalance on LCHF when there's an infraction, but like Mike said, good going all round and nothing to worry about.

I'll make one statement, which may, or may not be relevant to your circumstances, and ask one question.

Near the beginning of my learning process, for me pizza was similar, in that I had a slow, low rise, but it didn't fully revert for a couple of days. I tried again some months later and it was a bit better. We're not enthusiastic pizza eaters, so never have it at home, and only have it if the pizza place is really where others want to go.Recently, I tried it again, and I was fine, but to be clear, my diabetes has moved on a great deal and improved enormously.

Obviously, you didn't have pizza, but just suggesting the high fat content, with refined carbs had an impact. It could be the batter wasn't your friend, especially if the batter/veg ratio, was thin veg, scrumptious lay thick batter!

The second potential would be to ask if you had coincidentally started a new pot of strips? Some pots, annoyingly, can read higher or lower than usual. That's a bit of a long shot, but always worth just sense checking it.

You're right of course, I need to relax and stop being so control-freaky about it all lol

Thanks, that's useful for me to know going forward

Thanks, I did wonder if it was to do with opening a new batch of strips but I'm still on the same batch and levels are now back to normal so probably just me lapsing x
