Hi all, not been on for a while because i've been unwell. Last HBA1c 21.4, no matter what they try to do i just can't seem to get my levels under control. I'm on mega high levels of insulin (rapid & lever) but to no avail, it just doesn't seem to be working at all and i'm suffering all the symptoms of very high sugar levels. Not eaten for the last 3 days, (heavy cold), and can't get a reading below 15.

Thanks for listening & happy new year to you all!!!!!!!!!!!

What is a typical days dietary intake, previous to the present illness ?
What medications are you taking, including anything non Diabetes related ?

With that information we MAY be able to offer some advice.

Hi Ken, OK, breakfast: 2 slices of wholemeal toast, Lunch: chicken, salad & 1 round of bread, tea: meat, small amount of veg (not potatoes). I really do have a small appetite and over the last 2.5 months i've lost 22 kilos in weight, i know i needed to lose some weight but this is rediculous.

Meds: Novorapid, Levemir, Simvastatin, Ramipril & aspirin, oh and Nystaform for a very nasty fungal infection.

Have you been to see an Endocrinologist at all ? Has anybody ever suggested that you go into Hospital to get your Bg levels normalised.

There doesn't appear to be anything obvious from what you have told us. The unexplained weight loss and the high Bg levels definitely need investigating by an expert, NOT a GP.

Hi Hazey,

I would go back to see your diabetes consultant right away. There are blood glucose monitors available which continuously monitors blood glucose over a 7 day period. These are expensive to buy and maintain, but my diabetes clinic has one and is available to people with eratic control. The data is downloaded to a computer and the consultant can analyse and give advice on the appropriate treatment.

Do ask if there is one available in your diabetes clinic, by all accounts they are not to intrusive and the monitor is not much bigger than a mobile phone. I wouldn't let things continue as they are, I know you have been unwell and that does cause blood glucose to rise, but you do need to see someone asap.

Good luck

Nigel
