Hi,

I've been a type 1 diabetic since 2001. I decided that instead of simply lurking around the forum from time to time it might be better to actually join.

I'm hoping that people with shared experiences will be able to give me something that medical professionals are sometimes unable to do. Although I have had good experiences with nurses and doctors I have also been given contradictory information and dismissive answers at times. On bad days it feels like the longer I have diabetes the more confusing it is.

Of course, there are good days too.

Welcome @vanarchre I'm sure you too will have thoughts and experiences others will find really helpful. Be nice to hear about those good days :)

I hope so. In fact I apologise for coming off so negative in that first message!

I didn't see any nevativity. We all have good days and bad days. Including nondiabetics.

What experiences would you like to hear?

After 15 years of knowing nobody else that is a diabetic, I am open to most conversation. Certainly the things that one doesn't get from a doctor are nice to here.

Well low carb higher healthy fats are probably something you'll never hear from doctors. No money in it for them

I have certainly never heard this from a doctor but its money really an issue? Surely an NHS doctor shouldn't care? Or is the issue that they get their information from people with vested interests?

They're not selling drugs. At least that's the way it is here in the US. Pharmasutical companies need to make money and that doesn't happen if we control it ourselves.
