Look at what we're missing out on...

my consultant said on tuesday that 'T1's can actually eat what they like if they can get the dose right' ...... so i wonder if they would go through this 'pizza burger' on the dafne course.

I enjoy pizza, but that picture is just obscene and not very appetizing. :x

"Getting the dose right" for a T1 is more than working out an amount of insulin, for foods like pizza it must be determined over what time period to deliver the insulin, and other factors may also be involved. Many can keep a fairly flat bg post-meal in this way, but probably not without a pump (extended or square wave bolus).

so we should avoid pizza unless we got a pump?

i've kept pretty good levels after pizza so far. if it becomes a problem i'll have to overdose a little and top up with some oj later. one thing i cannot give up is pizza.

I'm not sure about that - I certainly never did - but it's a hell of a lot easier WITH a pump! I spread the bolus over 3 hours to keep level with pizza. Different foods, different times.

You might still be in your honeymoon period, still producing some insulin naturally, which could make spikes less pronounced?
