Hi!

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in June 2017 and to be honest it's been a bit of a struggle. I'm haven't been managing too great but feel now that I want to really get in control of this. Does anyone have any advice on the best way to keep some kind of journal on my sugar levels and how much insulin I take? Are there any good apps etc for this?

Thanks for any help!

Since you are a type 1 I recommend using a CGM...it comes with its own app. Or you can download one for your phone because it's easier to introduce data and it's near you all the time :) Glucose Buddy - Android and mySugr - Apple just to name a couple...

Hi @Davidg371 two ways to log either get a small book and manually write down dose/carbs eaten/insulin taken or get an app as like DiaConnect which tracks all of this plus you can email results to your nurse if you have their email address, mine responds well to emails and so can get better support this way and more regularly when I need it.

Thanks to both of you for the help. @IonutzPopa what is a CGM? I’m still trying to figure out the carb counting! It’s taking quite a bit of getting used to!

I was also diagnosed in June 2017 and so far all I have done is restrict my carb intake. Well restricting as in not over doing it on junk foods.

I really watch what I eat and I also try to stay with the same food types that seem ok for me at the moment. This is quite boring at times but it helps stabilise my blood. On a weekend I experement more with food and I get a mixed bag of results.

I used to note down all blood test results and what foods I ate. I did this for about 2 months and used my notes for reference to how many units of insulin I needed to take. I don't do this anymore as I know how much to inject with the foods I eat.

This forum is great for advice as it's real life situations that people share, not just a nurse or dr telling you x, y and z.

Thankyou for all the advice! Glad I came on here! I’m going to try a few of these tips out.

CGM is a game changer. Experiment and throw in some exercise and you will start to get it nailed. You will quickly learn that foods you have been told to avoid there is a good reason as you will see it. There are a lot of apps out there, but really a CGM will really sort things out.

Thanks! I’m definitely looking into it. Trying to find out if I can get it on prescription.
