Hi there just looking to see if any of you guys can help with any thoughts I have a problem with my breakfast, every other meal the 2 hour post meal test shows a small rise however after breakfast there is always a drop x

Without stating the obvious, have you tried adjusting your insulin-to-carb ratio (assuming you've basal tested)?

Alternatively if you usually bolus ahead of your food you could try bolusing just before or after your breakfast to see if it helps matters.

Yes I have adjusted my ratios I am only taking 1u:15g carbs for my breakfast so 2 units of i reduce it to 1 and a half I end up out of range 4 hours later, I eat like 5 minutes after taking my novo for breakfast this morning for instance I was 5.4 before injecting and 3.9 1 hour and 40 minutes later, usually at 2 hours I can be usually 0.8 mmol lower x

Hi :) generally it's 2 slices wholemeal toast one with a thin layer of butter and the other with 20g cocoa and peanut butter spread x

Hi @kaylz91 . Are you bolusing for the 20g peanut butter? Peanut butter for me takes a long time to get into my system.
I find peanut butter suits me better at night. It doesn't spike me but gives a gradual supply of sugar over a longer period of time.
Peanut butter could quite easily be taking 3 or more hours to get into your system. Maybe something to consider.

Yes I am as it contains honey and if I reduce my insulin I just go high by pre lunch, even the toast on its own and taking into account my bs at the time my meter would still suggest a 2 unit dose as the toast requires 1.7 units x I also had the same problem when I was eating granola and skyr honey yoghurt x

Hi @kaylz91 . All a bit baffling. I see you are recently diagnosed and may well be in the honeymoon period which often causes erratic and variable readings. I'm no expert and this is only a thought but maybe your pancreas is having a surge of activity in the mornings ( nothing about diabetes should come as to much of a surprise ).
I'm sorry can't offer much more.
If this continues to be a daily occurrence then you can reduce your insulin more or maybe try a few extra carbs ( a piece of fruit after breakfast).
Keep checking as from past knowledge I can assure you it could all change in a short period of time.
Good luck

I don't know what to do as I don't want to end up high as I have a fear, I'm also kind of developing a fear with food too, thanks for your suggestions though x

What basal are you on and when do you take it?

Maybe you should consider bolusing after breakfast. Or increasing fast acting carbs (a little bit, maybe just have spread on slice #2 as well) with breakfast.

I'm not sure why it's happening either. I'm most insulin sensitive in the morning. Insulin sensitivity can change throughout that day, so that might be playing a part.

I'm on Tresiba and I take it about 10pm, although from what the rower said adding more cocoa and peanut spread would make things worse? Yes it seems I am most sensitive in the morning too! :( most people I've spoken to say they are more resistant in the morning x

No @therower doesnt say peanut butter would make things worse, he says it takes a long time for the carbs in traditional peanut butter to start working to raise his blood sugar. Which is true for me too. A traditional, nothing added peanut butter is something I will eat a spoonful of before a run because I know it will stubbornly raise me over quite a long time. It won't be making it worse in terms of making you hypo, it just might make timing your bolus a bit tricky if the carbs don't start acting for a while so the insulin works before the carbs do. I'm not sure that's an issue if your spread has lots of stuff added - if it's got honey in it should be fairly fast acting.

Most people will have a dawn phenomenon making them rise in the morning (rise as in get out of bed and rise as in blood sugar goes up). I have desperate for a lie in, maybe if I make her hypo she will stay in bed phenomenon instead. It's not as catchy a name.

You could try a ratio of 1:20 and see how you get on @kaylz91

As already mentioned if I take 1.5 units it either goes well or it doesn't :( thanks for all your help though :) x

Right, if your basal dose is keeping you steady and not dipping then the only thing I can suggest is to pre-empt the low bg, maybe have a small snack around the hour mark after your breakfast.

The Honeymoon Period can be a frustrating time but things will eventually settle down @kaylz91

btw, still like your pic with Aidy, not long to the Matchplay :)

Hi

Possibly look at when you take your tresiba. For me, moving to a morning dose from evening sorted most of the lows in the morning.

I am so frustrated it is unbelievable! :( like this morning woke to a 6.3 2 hours post was 5.7 and pre lunch was 7.5 I'd at least like to stay in range you know what I mean but I don't have a clue! I just don't get why I always did after breakfast then can still end up out of range :( I don't look the same as I do in that pic as I've had one side of my head shaved! Lol, will have to update pic as this is the only one I've used haha, haven't been to any darts related things for a while actually x

Thanks for that suggestion I may have to look into that! :), I didn't think it could be to do with the Tresiba as it's meant to be a flatter profile although I have nothing to compare it to, do you have any advice on making the transition from night to morning? x
