hey guys,
im james, im 23 and have had type one since i was 6 or 7 years old, never had a problem with weight until i hit about 20 were i went from 11 stone which i have always been to about 13 stone 12 now, im 6 foot tall.
my control was great until i turned about 20 when the weight started to rise, i have read on here today that the more insulin you take the more problems your likely to have with weight.
i have cut out all bread and pasta, im eating bran flakes for breakfast, soup for lunch and usauly chicken for dinner, snacks im just eating fruit, no biscuits, chocolate or crisps etc,
im doing press ups every 48 hours to build upper body strength and im doing 30 mins on a cross trainer every second day, also walking my dog on a 2.5 mile walk when ever possible. its hard to find time to excersize more due to working as a mechanic and caring for my 3 year old son.
is there any other tips for keeping my weight down, certain things to eat or not to eat? bran flakes for breakfast with semi skimmed milk keeps me pretty fuled up until about 10 am were i have fruit.
Hi James.. In the same boat as you... Put on alot of weight because of insulin(laziness too) I started on a diet... A cup of low fat milk, and some brand flakes 3 times a day. And some fruit and plain yoghurt as a snack. Been doing this for a month with running everyday. Haven't lost any weight as yet thou going to see a Dietician on Thursday to try to come up with a low carb, low calorie diet. Will post you outcome on that.

Cal, just be careful with dietitian, some don't mind low carbs, some say you got to have certain carbs every meal etc because that's what the NHS guidelines say.
Don't forget if you eat too lesser calories then your body will enter starvation mode and can play havoc with any weightloss plans....
I had similar issue until I was started on 850mg Metformin 3 times a day along side my normal insulin dose. Went from 15st to 13 & half st with no change in diet or exercise. Took up road cycling 12 months ago now down to 12 st 3lbs, best thing i ever did, with just a miner adjustment to diet.

Hi, yes, Type 1. My diabetologist said it helps the absorption of insulin and can help with weight reduction, certainly worked for me. Worth asking about.
