Am trying to lose weight but not entirely sure the best way about it with my type 1 diabetes and blood sugars as they have been a bit off and going quite low every once in a while... So am wondering if anyone on here has successfully lost weight and if so what diet plan did you use as i would be interested and willing to try it and see if i can manage to lose some weight this way and still keep my blood sugars at a steady level.

I’m type 2 and a non-insulin user so not best placed to help, but suspect that @ert may have some useful ideas.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.
I can't help regarding weight. However with the lows; when did you last do a basal test? That's usually the start with finding out what's happening with the insulin causing the low issues..

I'll tag in @NicoleC1971 , who may have some ideas on balancing insulin with a weightloss plan?

Hi @Steph87 I'm wondering the same

I will also tag @NicoleC1971.

I was always at the bottom of my BMI 19ish until I started using insulin and put on a lot of weight overnight to reach BMI of 25.
Things that worked for me: I've found if my basal is right, I don't need so much correcting in terms of extra food or extra insulin and this makes a huge difference to being able to lose weight. I always exercise every day including mixing up aerobic, bodyweight exercises or weights over the week. I also found having two days a week at 800 calories helped (the 5:2 diet.) I also use myfitnesspal.com as I always eat more calories than I realise, especially cheese. I like meal skipping and drinking coffee and cream instead. I'm now finally back to BMI 22 and feeling pretty happy. I don't think it's worth the effort to continue and try to fit into my previous wardrobe.
