Hi all as some will know I'm into month 3 of LCHF and have lost my appetite even more. I'm struggling to have one meal a day. I fast 18/6 everyday with no problem but don't feel like eating at end of fast I sometimes go 20+ hours and still not hungry. I'm still on meds so need some food to take them. I have cut them down by half as I can only manage one meal a day. I've got my diabetes MOT and bloods in 2 weeks sow will have a word with the Dn. The weight is coming off and Bg are great but just not hungry and I feel fine.:) Anyone else having these issues? :)

Weight coming off and BG being great is something to be envied by some. Loss of appetite shouldn't be a problem in the short term. Weight and BG will help you decide when to start really worrying. I've only experienced loss of appetite in hot weather but if I do a lot of exercise it soon returns whatever the weather.

Hi there - I have a healthy appetite and don't take any meds, so I have no personal wisdom to offer you. A reduction in appetite at can happen sometimes, for those on Metformin.

It could be that, if your HbA1c backs up your finger prick tests that your Doc or nurse would be comfortable tweaking a removing some meds, but best to get those blood results first.

Hi I am a low-carber and I don’t feel hungry unless I eat carbs. I too only eat one healthy meal a day and feel great unless I eat carbs and then I feel sluggish and get indigestion. I get lots of exercise and still don’t feel hungry but enjoy my meal when I have it. I wear a Libre and my BG is a straight line and in target unless I eat carbs. After attending a Dafne course I was persuaded to eat carbs and adjust my dose but I tried it and felt terrible. My basal and bolus insulin is obviously much reduced with low carb too. It’s not for everyone but it works for me and has done for many years. Carbs make me hungry. Hope this helps.

Sounds like you are fat adapted so your body is feeding itself from its fat stores..
Maybe try a 48 hour fast and see if that rekindles your appetite but for the moment what you are experiencing is one of the great "tricks" of LCHF.

I am jealous.

My hunger is nowhere near the levels it can get to when carbing, but I still NEED FOOD once or twice a day.

My only concern would be if the lack of appetite meant unwanted weight loss?
But if you are happy to lose some weight, then I would just kick back and relax about it.

Just make sure that the food you eat is nutritious, and there isn't anything else (other illness or conditions) which might be causing the lack of hunger. If those are OK, then enjoy. So many of us struggle with hunger, lack of weight loss, cravings and difficulty losing weight, that your situation sounds like a very nice place to be! :D

As an aside, I am noticing that the hot weather means I am less hungry.

I'm also a 1-meal a day person. Like others have said, I think it's part of the adaptation, ie becoming 'fat adapted'. There's been quite a few studies about how hunger is signalled, and sugars tend to be part of that process. I'm also the same in that I tend to feel less hungry when it's hot, especially hot & humid.

Like Brunneria says though, don't worry about it providing what you do eat is nutritionally complete and you're keeping hydrated. Then keep an eye on your weight and figure in case you get underweight. Eat when you're hungry, not when the clock says! :)

Hi @Terrytiddy,
As others have said, ensuring that you are taking in enough of the essential vitamins and minerals is important.
Perhaps a dietician could help with that if need be.
Best Wishes for your blood tests and assessment.

Hi @kitedoc always make sure I have the vitamins, minerals and keep well hydrated. Assessment went great and HbA1c came back at 41 from 82, not bad in three months!

I have only started doing OMAD and less than 20g carbs this week. I haven't been eating until around 5pm because I am not hungry before then. Today I had a snack at lunch time (28g KPNuts) and I don't feel like eating my meal yet. I may wait until tomorrow if I continue to feel like this.
