Lost my meter!

Aaargh. I decided to carry my glucose meter/test kit with me today as a I had a long journey to make, and have just returned home and cannot find it anywhere. I've recently started with insulin injections and am currently testing 5+ times a day until readings settle down. :?

Does anyone know if you can you get replacements kits out of hours?

Any advice gratefully received.

Not really - Boots normally sell the kits and have a 'midnight pharmacy' - use the store locater on their website to search.

You have to expand the services section and tick "midnight pharmacy"

Would A&E lend you one? Worth a phone call? Or phone NHS direct perhaps?

If you give your meter manufacturer a ring they may well send you a free one, even though it will probably take a few days to arrive it would be worth doing to have a spare.

Do you have a DSN at the hospital, they gave me my first meter so would probably be able to give you a spare.

Hopefully you got something sorted over the weekend, however what I would do in future is make sure you have a spare meter at all times in the event that something similar happens again, the meter companies are falling over themselves to give them away and most diabetes clinics have free meters given to them by the meter reps.....just ask!
