Hi...My little boy was diagnosed Type 1 12 months ago at 2 1/12. He was diagnosed just as we were potty training which caused a set back and now I don't know if it's just the way he is or if the diabetes has added to the problems we've been having. Before he developed diabetes he had been dry every night for weeks but 12 months later and aged 3 1/2 I can count on 1 hand how many times he's been dry during the night since diagnosis. That was frustrating enough but now he is constantly wetting himself. Before Christmas he wasn't doing too badly. At the end of November it appeared that he was coming out of the honeymoon phase and as his BG increased so did the number of accidents he was having. Over Christmas he was poorly with Tonsillitis and his BG was through the roof! This was when he started having 2 or 3 accidents a day and we just put it down to very high blood sugars. However, he's now fit as a fiddle and he's having far fewer high BG's as we've been increasing his insulin dose but he's still wetting himself!!! He's mainly high mid morning and tends to go up to around 18. It's mainly little dribbles just before he tells us he needs to go, it's almost like he doesn't know he needs to go until it's happening. Other times it's a full on accident straight after us asking him if he needs to go and he claims he doesn't. It's getting very frustrating, I can't wash his clothes fast enough. At first I though it was laziness and we tried everything...long chats, rewards for having no accidents, jumping around like a lunatic cheering when he uses the toilet lol. Has anyone else had similar problems? Is there anything you can suggest to help? How long did it take after diagnosis before your children were dry during the night? I would greatly appreciate any advice and to hear about anyone else's experiences.
