mean people, corrupt politicians, poverty, happy pharmaceutical ads;
I have noticed that when I get a blood glucose number of say 5.1 on my meter and continue to eat,
i get an upper stomach/heart? symptom. Often I get tired after and maybe take a nap. Then I stabilize. I wonder if I
am just eating a lot to bring the number up or if it is a cardiac response? As the years go by, I seem
to tolerate high numbers better, and the hypos not at all.

Heart burn / indigestion and feeling tired are symptoms of high sugars, so are you perhaps seeing a 5.1 then injecting and eating right away ? I would think that could be the case if your spiking after the meal before your insulin is bringing you back to a normal number you would go high and feel poorly for an hour or two, about 45 minutes after eating and then start to come back to normal.

Bingo.... that is something i read in my Jphns Hopkins Diabetes book. But I was also curious about the side effects of sulfam.... oral drugs which do have a heart burn side effect--- something i would rather have than a cardiac roller coaster. Thank you.

@Erin - even though you have a pre meal reading of 5.1 and inject the amount of insulin that should cover the carbs you eat you WILL spike before that insulin brings you back to normal. I have found if i do not wait at least 20min between injecting and eating that my sugars will go from 5.1 to 10+ and stay there for about 30-45 minutes and then start to return to normal, and end back at 5.1, 4 hours later.

This spike will cause damage to your cells, as you can feel already. Because of this i have found that as long as i eat no more then 30g of carbs per meal i can keep my sugars <7.5 all the time, which isn't amazing, but its better then the life shortening rollercoaster of 5s to 12s and back....

I would suggest simply waiting longer after injecting and eating less carbs.

Thanks for the advice Diamattic. When I eat too much and I am on the low range, I do feel chest tightness. I eat a lot so as not to feel too low and I have read that as you age the lower numbers are not the best. BTW I take gluclizide, not insulin.
