Blood sugars going up during the night plus blood sugars going up when I've not been eating during the day.

If you have basal tested and levels are higher than target ranges then your basal is too low.

What symptoms are you talking about? There may not be any physical felt symptoms if your bloods are under 14.0 and ketones would normally show in ketone sticks after a while but not straight away.

It would simply be an increase in your blood sugar level in the absence of any carbs and/or bolus insulin....
