I am 73 years of age and have had diabetes1 for 56 years and thought I knew everything about it. But I have a problem I don’t know the answer to. I have twice experienced a sudden and quick low blood sugar. The other night It read 10 but after having my night time insulin and round of toast within 20 minutes it dropped like a stone to 2.2! I had my usual lucazade and couple of dry biscuits and expected it to rise as usual. But it dropped to LO! I had a sandwich and glycogen then the rest of the bottle of lucazade because it took such a long time to rise to 4.1 - nearly two hours. When it happened the first time I spoke to my diabetic/kidney specialist nurse but she hadn’t got an answer as to why it would drop so suddenly. We are going on holiday over Christmas and I am getting frightened of it happening again when I am away and not having access to enough food to get it back up again. I have ordered the injection off my GP that you can give yourself to bring it up quickly just in case. But I don’t know why it is happening or how to stop it happening. Any advice anyone?
