Low Blood Sugar?

I have recently bought a blood glucose monitoring system after various symptoms relating to what I think is low blood sugar issues. Such as, excessive sweating, anxiety, feeling dizzy/lightheaded in public places, headaches after exercise and feel horrible for days afterwards, ill after drinking low - moderate amounts of alcohol, waking up feeling still extremely tired after 7-8 hours sleep).

During the day before the test I had ate around 140 grams of carbs, about an hour before the test I had drank a glass of vimto providing around 10-12grams of sugar. The test measured 4.0 mmol. I am wondering if this is low considering what I had ate during the day?

I can only seem to find literature that supports information on low blood glucose when going on a fast (shouldnt be below 3.8mmol). My level seems to be rather close to 3.8, considering the amount I had ate, is that something to be worried about?

I realise I should of done a fast first, and that is what I plan to do tonight and then measure. If my level is below 3.8 after the fast, should I definetely make an appointment to see a doctor?

Anyhelp would be appreciated, as I am new to all of this information.

Are you a diabetic on insulin or a sulphonyl urea? If not then you haven't anything to worry about. 3.8 or 4.0 there's no difference! The meter isn't that accurate. In any case those values are only dangerous if you've taken a medicine which will keep them dropping.

I am slightly consfused then, as from reading information on the internet it suggests that levels below 3.8 (on some places it says 4) are considered to be hypoglycemic. Granted it may not bring on such horrible symptoms as lower levels, but is it not still a cause for concern?

Why does a low level not matter if you are not taking medicines which lower blood sugar? If I was to say exercise or drink alcohol now, wouldnt that put me towards dangerous levels, and therefore be considered unhealthy? And I would be better off starting off with higher levels so that the bad effect is lessened.

I was also thinking that if I was to stop eating for the rest of evening and night now, and only eat breakfast late then my blood sugar would only keep falling, now the fact I am starting off with a measurement of 3.8, well surely that is a bad situation compared to someone who would do the same but start of with a more healthy measurement of say 4.9?

What I am trying to get at is - because I am apparently measuring low do I need to take special measures to make sure my blood sugar levels are kept up to avoid them dropping and causing bad symptoms? Through diet possibly? Although I am not entirely sure what best way that would be?
