Re: low blood ugurs

So are you saying that your readings go this low after eating lunch? Seems unusual.

Waking up with a reading of 5 is less than that needed to diagnose you as diabetic. Porridge and a banana would give some people very high readings two hours after eating them. Your recovery rate down to four is impressive. A pastie and a cup of tea would give some people a very high two hour reading. Can you confirm you waited two hours before testing a 10.

The whole thing sounds that you are getting high spikes with a great recovery rate. With a fasting level of 5 it might be an idea to get tested again at your GP's

Re: low blood ugurs

Do you have any symptoms when your blood glucose is 3-4 mmol/litre? If not, your readings may be inaccurate. Take your meter along when you go to see the diabetic nurse and compare readings.

Re: low blood ugurs

Hi. I can't be an expert on this but it would appear that your diet has made your diabetes diagnosis now quite marginal which is potentially good news. Perhaps getting the right balance of carb intake during the day and low-GI etc will help and as Squire Fulwood says perhaps you need another Glucose Tolerance Test? What is your current HBa1c measure?

Re: low blood ugurs

the diabetic nurse said i was border line and told me to use diet but never gave me a diet sheet
i get shaky when the sugur level has dropped to btween 3 and 4 but im hoping its because ive cut out all sugurs and only eat fish vegatables fruit and ocaisionally bread as dont know how many calories to eat and what amount of food to eat with each other if u understand me
yes i am saying that my sugur level is 5s in morning and are usually around 5s am
nd 6s but toady been all over the shop again 5.2 bfore breakfast after a bowl of ooridge the were 6.2/two hous later than i ate a banana at ten thirty
at 1 35 i did bloods again they were 4 so i ate a pasty and cup of tea tested them two hours later they were 10.6
at 5 pm itested them they were 4.6 and have had fish vegatables and brown crusty roll see what they are at 7 pm thanks for listening kim

Re: low blood ugurs

I don't know of anyone that got issued with a diet sheet for diabetes by the NHS. The two they gave me were for blood pressure and cholesterol. It took me a year to realise they were useless to me.

As for the rest of it. I would get readings like yours if I ate bread or pie crusts. I would probably get high readings if I ate porridge and bananas also. Reducing the portions would not help me but might be ok for you.

The only thing I can't explain is your low fasting figures. I am wondering what happened when you got your diagnosis. It looks like you would fail a Glucose Tolerance Test and pass the fasting ones. I don't know anymore than that.

I too have a problem with low blood sugar, mid to late afternoon, 3 to 4 and I feel quite ill with it, very weak, shaky, sweaty and need to eat. But my overall blood sugars are higher than Kim's. will be interested to see what your nurse says. I am due an appt with my doc in a couple of weeks and this is something I will bring up with her.
