im worrying as i realy dont know what to eat , i lost nearly a stone in over a week may be water ? this week i haven't lost a lb,

basically i dont know how to get my bs down anymore

thanks

Hi sandysan . Well done on your progress so far, there are a couple of things in your diet that I wouldn’t eat due to their carb level, they are porridge and beans. Try testing before your porridge and two hours after first bite, I think you’d find less of a rise in blood sugars if you had a lower carb breakfast. Pulses are higher carbs so try swapping your beans and peas for above ground veg instead.

Hi Sandy.

Although that’s not a high carb diet, it’s not really low either.
Porridge, tomatoes, peas, beans and low fat yoghurt are all quite carby, have you tested at one and two hours after those meals to find out what happens to your levels?

I had a bowl of porridge a couple of weks ago (as an unnecessary knee-jerk reaction to high cholesterol results) and my blood sugars shot up to 17 two hours after eating! If I were you I'd cut that one out and I echo what others have said about beans, tomatoes and peas. Good luck with your journey and I wish you continued success x x

thankyou ,
as i dont know how to work carbs out im not very clever hahah,,,, where can i find a low carb menu, im so fed up of eating what i have been eating every day for 2 weeks ,

I use this site to help me calculate carbs.... https://www.nutritionix.com/food/whole-milk ....
Enter the food in the search box it will give you a list of options to choose from and then the nutritional value of the one you have chosen. When you're calculating carbs, you need to subtract fibre from the total carb value and use that number (if total carbs is 50 and fibre is 10, use 40). Have fun x x x

Hi Sandsan, I would ditch the porridge, too carby, try bacon, egg, tomatoes, high fat sausage and mushrooms. I have full fat greek yoghurt with cream and a few raspberries for breakfast. Keep clear of low fat as they have more sugar in them (weird, I know). Are you referring to baked beans, if so, far too many carbs. As Rachel has said, the diet doctor website has some good ideas for low carb foods and they are pretty good. How long have you been diabetic? Have you been following a low carb diet? Anyway, don't despair, I'm sure with a few changes you will get your levels down. It's a long haul but I'm sure you'll get there. Take care and let us know how you get on.

If you live in the UK, the Fat Secret nutrition info has Fibre as separate item, so you do not have deduct from the carbs.
