Hi,
(I'm carrying on this from a different thread as it fits better under this category.)
My 10 years' old daughter has Type 1 and we do low carb (not quite keto, she has about 50g - 60g of carbs a day). That has worked pretty well so far in controlling blood sugar levels. But recently we've struggled with control and her insulin ratio has been very volatile. At times the insulin seems to have no effect on blood sugar at all.
In terms of patterns, her blood sugar is fairly well controlled during the day but jumps by about 4-5mmol in the five hours after dinner. Sugar levels peak between 10pm and 2am. Sometimes we give corrections at night time, but they seem almost completely ineffective.
Recently, one day last week, from lunch to dinner the insulin ratio doubled. That is, at lunch time it was as normal, but at dinner was twice as high, so we needed to give a correction. We thought it was a one-off but the insulin ratio has stayed high since. We also increased the basal by about 30%.
She's been unchanged in all other respects as far as we can tell.
Any ideas what could be causing this and if it could be diet related?
Thanks!
Jon
