Low-Carb Bread!!

well i do think portion sizes count and what is interesting on the dafne course is that at the beg they get people to estimate portion sizes and they are often way out!

I don't think i would be able to cut things in half!

ally5555, we have developed some really nice bars at my company including nuts and dietry fibre, carbs per portion about 3.7g, unfortunately we no longer supply these to supermarkets and you can only buy them direct from us whilst on our full diet package or after a full month.

As for the bread, I shall carry on in my challenge of finding some company willing to make a low carb version. There is guaranteed sales for whoever takes on the project.

I am looking for some bars for a company I am working for but i am trying to move away from seeds athis involves exercise and seeds and strenuous exercise do not go very well together! Could you pm me some details

When I was diagnosed type 2 the nurse suggested I try burgens Linseed and Soya bread - It is on the expensive side and having been a lifelong lover of white bread this really is very nice.

re the low carb bread from the low-carb megastore - it looks really lovely - buuut I just got some tesco bread (it's a wholmeal loaf so obviously has wheat content) but it contains OATS - although it's targetted at lowering cholesterol levels, I noticed it had a significantly lower carb content than any other "proper" bread (that is, not some black or flattened thingy less appealing that your average lonely flip flop washed up on the beach) - it's about 34grms per 100 ... and yes, I know I'm really new to this (diagnosed last Friday lol) and I'm really not in the best position to advise, I thought I'd mention something that was easily accessible (well, Tesco's is pretty get-to-able) and relatively inexpensive (99p) ... mind you, I was quite happily meandering along eating Morrisons white long life for 65p ... so it's a bit more haha ... anyhow, it tastes absolutely gorgeous (mind you, a few days without bread and that flip flop was looking pretty good for a breakfast meal)

They do seem too use Splenda a lot. Must be to make the bread taste sweet (yuck!), as it cannot act as food for the yeast. I'm still looking for a light airy bread.

I take it all back - the (very lovely) tesco oat bread sent my bloods a bit too high - ah well, it was worth a try eh!! might work for somebody else?

I just have 1/2 a slice of wholemeal once or twice a day - depends what else I'm eating. That's 8-10 g carb.

Just tried Italian proto-toast from a low carbing site and not only was it quite the kakkest thing I've ever tried it still managed to induce a small spike ...

does anyone know what effect an allergy (for instance to gluten) would have on BG levels?

I eat one slice of Hovis Seed Sensations. One slice has 14 carbs, 5g protein, 3g fat, 6g fibre. It freezes well and makes OK toast. Loads and loads of whole seeds.

I get my Burgen from my local coop. It's the same price as a Warburtons . One slice with my evening meal. I have to feed the birds after a few days but it does last a few days.

I had a look at the coop cheap wholeme al and nearly fainted at the high levels of carbs in it! Cheap and nasty

The smaller Burgen Linseed and Soya loaf has 9g carbs per slice, tastes nice too.
Going to try and make my own with flax and almond flour, maybe add some walnuts.
