Hi

I started a low carb diet 2 weeks ago (20g a day only), I am wanting to lose 2 stone but in the two weeks I've only lost 2lbs and I know thats not right as my sister (who isn't diabetic) has lost 11lbs. I am type 1 diabetic on an insulin pump. Am I doing something wrong? could it be because i'm diabetic? can anyone help please?

Many thanks

Rebecca

I don't know much about type 1 and insulin, but maybe if you could list a typical days food, someone might be able to help. I low carb and sometimes don't lose much, its quite a delicate balancing act between carbs, fat and protein.

Normally i have eggs for breakfast then some chicken in a salad for lunch then some meat with broccoli for dinner

There doesn't seem to be much fat in there, I would maybe try adding some cheese to the eggs, some full fat mayo to the chicken salad and maybe a creamy sauce with dinner, or follow it with some sugarfree jelly and double cream, or some full fat greek yog with a few berries. It sounds so mad, but if you don't eat enough, you wont lose much weight. Snack on nuts or cheese. On a low carb diet you should never feel hungry, if you do have a snack.

Are you having many lows that your having to correct? If so you need to reduce your insulin to allow for the reduction of carbs.

2lb in 2 week is 52 lb in one year, sorry for stating the obvious but that doesnt sound like a reason to be dissapointed

best of luck

I have been low carbing since the end of October and have lost 9lbs. I can understand your frustration when lots of other people who low carb lose so much more weight. I weigh myself every week and the maximum my weight has gone down is 2lbs, some weeks it is 1lb and some weeks in has stayed the same but I now tell myself at least it hasn't gone up. So it may take a while but I will make sure I lose the 2 stone I need to!

I think the more weight you have to lose the quicker it comes off. I lost almost 3 stone in 5 months, then not a single pound for almost a year, then all of a sudden the weight seems to be coming off again.

keep swimming...........

Hi ya, you're doing great, keep going and as Andy has said 2lbs each week over the year is very good, keep motivated and think of smaller targets. Good stuff.
