Hi
I'm taking Metformin & now eating a low carb diet. (Carbs spike my bl sugar levels badly.)
From http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-and-ketones.html :
"ketones are produced when the body burns fat. Therefore people that are losing a significant amount of weight may experience higher than normal ketone levels."
I have 2 questions, please:
1.Does that mean that my GP is likely to have something else (-ie ketones in urine) to "tell me off" about? (Am feeling pretty cynical, based on the "help" <cough, cough> I've rec'd to date from the public heath system... )
2. How likely is that to be dangerous? (I don't have the ability to test myself for ketones; am not even sure that ketone testing strips are available in my country, NZ.)
Thank you.
Kind regards,
Rosalind
