Waist Disposal and Beyond the Diet Trap are two books by Dr John Briffa suggested by my GP. I have stopped testing more than once a month and weighing weekly. All the good information about a balanced low carb diet is there. High protein, plenty of not too sweet veg and fruit, not to worry about the fat and I am thriving, still at work at age 71. Best breakfast is Greek Fage/Total yoghurt with one blueberry on each spoonful or sometimes extravagantly in season a raspberry or half a strawberry. Bliss.
Gymnema Sylvestre tea from Amazon.com (cannot get it in the UK) with small slice of lemon in a large cup is my best tea (it is half and half herb and actual tea) deals with sugar craving; Hindu name is Gur Mar = sugar killer.
Nuts for snacks, mixed sometimes salty, sometimes not salty, very few raisins in the mix.
