Eating less carbs REALLY helps my diabetes. The problem is I never have any motivation to cook and to be honest I never have really cooked. Haven't got lots of money to buy lots of meat and just don't know where to start. I don't like much food either.

Does anyone have a meal planner of what they have which is basic, easy to make and not too much money. I don't even mine eating the same thing day in day out so long as I have something to eat!

Please, any suggestions will be welcomed. I so want to do this, it's the only thing that helps my diabetes.

Hi Candi, I don't eat meat and still mangage to keep my BGs down.
I eat pulses (beans, peas, lentils etc).

I eat cheese, eggs yoghourt, fruit, vegetables, tofu, Quorn protien and lots of other stuff.

There are lots of things you can eat, and lots you can't. But once you get into it it becomes easier.

I never feel that my diet is restrictive or "the same" it does take a little imagination but I manage.

So, have a look through a vegetarian cook book or two, you will get some good low calorie, low carb and very low meat ideas.

There are lots of low carb things you can eat without cooking thank goodness and you can do it cheaply. It will all come with practise and a lot of researching on the net or even reading the posts on this helpful site.
There is also a book called 'Quick no cook low carb recipes'. Even better if you have a Kindle, it's on offer at only 86p at the moment!

Good Luck :D

Hi all
Ive just joined,am a type 1,and have been struggling to loose weight for some time.I have changed my basal and bolus insulin's 6 weeks ago as my control hasnt been good for a while, and am now trying to cut my carb intake.I have been keeping a food diary since xmas to see roughly how much carbs I usualy eat and its around 130g daily sometimes a little more.Could someone please tell me if its possible to loose weight on this amount,if not how low will I need to go to do so?I have found all the info on low carbing realy helpful but would appreciate any meal idea's and as much guidance as I can get as I realy want to make this year the one I loose this excess weight!
Thanks Binney
