Low Carb Journey

'Normal' non diabetics BG varies, higher than you would expect after meals.
LCHF can have different effects as well, as it does smooth out the highs and lows, but by the same token, if also limits the bodies response, as it no longer has to react to the highs and lows.
So those numbers look ok, it takes weeks to actually come to your own base line after a change in your diet.

Thank you all for your help and advice. I'm going to recommend these boards to a number of people I know with diabetes. There's nothing like support from people who have been there and done it.

Oh...and a finger prick test doesn't equate exactly to the level an HbA1c test will give you, so if your borderline test was say 48, a self test of 6 would equate to a number nearer 40, so it is an improvement already.

Yes it's not the 6 that bothers me - it's the 6 before a meal. If it's 6 before a meal what is it the rest of the time? I've done ten tests a day and got my own average which was spot on for the three monthly thing

Worry not. You have entered the alternate universe that is lchf.

You wont get the peaks any more.
Instead, you will get slow rises and falls. Sometimes the line stays very level.

A typical lchf work lunch of mine will take me from 5.7 up to a 2 hr peak of around 6.8, with a very slow drop through the next 6 hours til i hit 5.3 ish and think about preparing my evening meal.

Protein and fat digest much more slowly than carbs, giving an energy drip feed, rather than the sharp rise and drop of carbs.

After a few days of adjustment, you will probably find your appetite dips a bit, and your stamina rises.

Welcome to the club. ;)

Ut oh - so far NOT so good. Stuck to low carb and blood sugar higher than ever before. 7.3 this afternoon and I'm normally 4.9 by this time. Will soldier on and see what happens

Just realised that the stinking cold I have at the moment my have caused a rise in BG?

So far this seems to be quite an effortless way of eating. Breakfasted on fried veg mash and two fried eggs. Amazingly seem to have lost a couple of pounds too.

Still no sign of bloating which is far out as I've suffered from this for the whole of my life.

God, this is the most stressful week!! I'm up early helping my youngest child move out for uni! Last night I invited her to have a little party and tbh the kids were great - but the mess!

I'm arranging a little holiday which starts tomorrow - taking visually impaired people away for a week.

One of our founder members died this week after being in intensive care for 2 months after falling down the stairs and remaining undiscovered for three days (and he looked so well when I last saw him). Everyone mega upset. He was diabetic and falling a lot lately (feeling in his feet?)/

Just had six fundraising events held over two days - finished counting at around one this morning (with the kids blaring music in the background).

So last night I did my usual stress coping thingy and wolfed down a whole box of tea cakes. This was after over indulging in vegetables and cheese. Boy, did I feel ill.

After eating low carb for a few days i realised just how disgusting this bingeing makes me feel. Now for the prick..................

Well, think of it like this - the longer time periods you have of feeling well on LCHF, the worse you will feel when you fall off the wagon and binge. A bit like a drinker who ends up with a massive hangover. Maybe it will help prove to you how much better life can be on the wagon rather than off it?

I think you may be right!!
