Low Carb/Low GI pasta

Dear All,

Anyone interested in lowering their carb intake should consider Dreamfields pasta. This product is relatively new to the UK but I get lots of emails from dieter/diabetics/sportspersons all raving about it's taste, slow energy release and very little or no imact on blood sugar levels. Dreamfields has a very low glyceamic index therefore energy is released at a slower pace rather than other pasta's that spike blood sugar levels and make you feel bloated and tired.

Dreamfields contains a special fibre called Inulin which has been scientifically proven to promte digestive health and support a healthy immune system while enhancing calcium absorptionfor strong teeth and bones.

“There are two criteria of a perfect pasta – it must taste delicious and have a low Glycemic Load (GL). Dreamfields pasta fulfils both. A serving has half the GL of wholewheat pasta and a third the GL of white pasta. This makes Dreamfields pasta perfect for those concerned with weight or blood sugar balance.”
Professor Patrick Holford, founder of the Institute for Optimum Nutrition and author of the Holford Low GL Diet (http://www.holforddiet.com).

Lee,

Although this forum does have a policy of removing posts that are blatant sales pitches, your product does have benefits for diabetics who wish to lower blood glucose levels. Hence, I have not deleted your post and I trust that is ok with Daniel, our forum administrator.

Incidentally as one who has tried the product I would say just 2 things:

a) it would be helpful if you had a wider range of distributors. Its the sort of thing you would expect to find in the big retail health food stores, but I have asked in Holland and Barrett, Julian Graves and my local independent health food shops and they have never heard of it.

b) a warning on its use - it really does contain only 5 digestible carbs per serving. On 3 occasions when I have had it for an evening meal I have hypo'd during the night. So beware - its probably too low carb for Type 2s to have without being balanced by, say, a higher carb dessert.

Thanks Dennis, I have found your feedback most interesting.

I must admit that I didn't know whether this message would be allowed due to the reasons you mentioned but to be totally honest I just want to let people know that this product is available albeit at a few select retailers in the South East and via our website. I am doing this on my own therefore I don't have a huge budget to advertise nationally and reach those that would benefit from the product.

Hopefully things will develop this year and Dreamfields will be available at health food shops or supermarkets nationally.

I would appreciate it if you allow me to post messages at the forum but I totally understand if this is not achievable due to policy.

Thanks
Lee.

Dennis (not you, Lee, your bias!!) - how does it taste?

I now NEVER have pasta - don't even attempt to shoot for it because it always goes awry. Would love to try this, but only if it isn't icky...

Lee - what are the ingredients? (can't see from the website)

LJ,

It actually tastes very good. We have tried the pasta spirals, the maccaroni 'elbows' and the spaghetti and my wife and I both agreed they tasted no different to a normal durium wheat pasta.

Of course as a type 1 you can adjust your insulin to the lower carb count, but as a type 2 on tablets I can't and have suffered night hypos as a result! Getting hold of the stuff can be tricky. Apart from one in each of Bury and Middlesborough, all the stockists are in Surrey. Handy for me because I drive past one on the way home. It's not cheap and if you can only get it by mail order it makes it very expensive. I have already suggested to Lee that they need to sell via one of the big retailers, like Holland & Barrett or a supermarket. They won't make a profit if no-one can buy it!

I can vouch for this pasta, my daughter is 13 and type 1 diabetic and her blood sugar control is significantly better when eating the dreamfields pasta compared to the usual kind. I have done some experiments making the same dish with the two types. It also tastes great!
