Hello. I'm new to this forum so please bear with me. I've been managing type 2 for 23 years gradually going from diet only to an increasing pill regime, metformin, gliclazide and saxagliptin. My last HBA1C was 8.2 in August and I've been trying to get it down before the 6 month check (last Tuesday but no result yet) I've been reading loads and have decided to try the low carb diet. I am overweight but have been all my life and my weight has been stable for 20 years. I also exercise regularly going Nordic walking, using an exercise cycle daily and doing gentle circuit training. So my question. Has anyone else not lost weight on the low carb diet? I admit that it's only the first week but everything I've read suggests that the weight comes off quickly and I haven't lost a pound. My sugar levels are also very up and down, brilliant on the first day but not staying down. I'm feeling a bit despondent about it all.

One week and I wouldn't expect anything either .... a month or so, then with a good regime you'll slowly see the benefits.

Won't say it works for all (too many other factors) but for many it does. Small steps and discipline

Low Carb is primarily a BG control diet. Weight loss is only a potential bonus if you are also consuming less calories than you use. As carbs contain less calories per g than either protein or fat, you will be eating less overall food by weight on this diet.

Anyway, no long lasting weight loss will ever be achieved quickly on whatever diet is followed.

Hello @Clase . There is a thread on here 'low carb, what have you eaten today?' I find it really helpful for low carb meal ideas and I post my daily meals on the thread as i find it helps me to keep n track. I also use my fitness pal website to enter my food to monitor my calorie and carb intake. I hope this is of help.:)

Hi Clase
That's a big chunk of years as a Type 2.
It must be frustrating to have a slowly increasing regime of medication, good news tho, that weight is stable and not increasing and you seem really active, so grats on that, and wanting to be proactive :)
I cannot recommend the low carb lifestyle highly enough, and we are incredibly lucky to have some real gurus and chefs over on that forum area. It is early days for you so take heart give it a chance, plenty of great success stories from all types of diabetics to encourage ypu. and I steered some friends who don't even have diabetes but were curious about the way of eating I was raving about
