Hi, I have been low carb for a while, but 2 weeks ago, I started doing it seriously. This has improved my blood sugar levels in the mornings, they were often the highest in the day. My diet now is basically meat, eggs, fish, vegetables, nuts, seeds, butter and coconut oil. Have cut out rice, oatcakes, buckwheat and potatoes, the occasional bag of crisps and maltesers.
My problem is I seem to be putting on weight and my waist measurement has increased by about 5 cm in a fortnight. It could just be bloat, but I am not constipated.
Suggestions welcome
Thanks,Are you drinking enough water!
Are you still eating too much?
Have you increased your exercise? if you can!
It is a personal thing, and you do have to find your own 'diet' lifestyle that suits you.
You are eating all the right foods to lose weight, it probably just needs tweaking to get the balance right. Well done on getting your blood glucose levels down!
Thanks, i seem to be doing all the right things, lots of fluid, walk a lot etc, don't count calories, so may be eating too mch, but not sure I can eat less. I do have an underactive thyroid to add to the mix.Are you drinking enough water!

Cut out wheat and most dairy, except butter, caffiene, alcohol, sugar etc sometime ago.Hi and welcome!
I am wondering if you have maybe increased consumption of a food that you have an intolerance towards?
I blow up like a balloon if I eat too much wheat or milk. In your case, it could be any food, or additive, that has increased with your new diet...
Just speculating, of course. Must be rather demoralising for you.Hope you get to the bottom of it.
Don't count calories, but eating less than I was, so should be losing.Normal allergies are gluten, lactose, or milk.
So if you haven't cut out dairy, it could be a start.
But
'meat, eggs, fish, vegetables, nuts, seeds, butter and coconut oil'
All very calorific foods.
I balloon out simply from eating too many calories, do you count calories, and if so, how many are you eating a day?
Can you give us an idea of what you eat?
61,have underactive thyroid treated with levothyroxine. Also have very little large intestine, bowel cancer 16 years ago.Kate - I don't know your age, but could this be hormonal at all? I know some folks have a tendency to bloat a bit, which could manifest itself as weight gain (it's usually water) and thickening waistline.

Omelette with onion, garlic, courgettes, mushrooms, spinach
Tinned fish with salad, carrots, cabbage, avocado, courgettes, radishes, lettuce, tomatoes
Chicken and veg for dinner.
My highest blood sugar level is always in the morning. Hopefully this will sort itself out as these other things have.
