Hi All,
I'm a type one and been low carbing since diagnosis last year (May) around 30g a day. Before diagnosis I had intermittent sleep problems in the winter months waking up at 05:00 am and not going back to sleep , this was correctable with some anti-depressants or sleeping pills for a few days.

This winter season , my first as a low carber and diabetic , have been horrendous. I am getting around 2 -3 sleep a night. I wake up and can't get back to sleep and feel absolutely awful the next day. This has been going on since early October, i've been given by my GP anti-depressants, zopiclone and some other strong sleeping related tablets. These have had no effect. I'm now trying vitamins such as D3. Although D3 hasn't helped with the sleep it makes you feel better after an awful nights sleep. I've tried magnesium , calcium , zinc , all the B's, more exercise , less exercise , extreme amounts of exercise with no affect.

Has any other low carbers experienced anything similar? I can't find anything related to low carbing and insomnia on the web so am baffled.

I'll 'bump' your post up Cblake843 in the hope that other low-carbers may help, it could be co-incidental that your experiencing sleeping problems at the same time as your low-carbing, never had to go that low with my carbs so unfortunately can't help.

My internet search skills were not good enough :x . I've found numerous sites linking insomnia to ketosis , looks like i'm going to have to introduce some carbs into my diet (and more insulin to cover them)
